Instinctively, Iris reached out and clutched Denny’s arm. She didn’t even realize that she had done so for a moment, but when it registered, she didn’t let go. The smell of blood was overpowering and almost sickening, making her want to reel away, though all she was able to do was take a step back as Denny did.
Though Iris had seen a lot due to her job, this was something completely new to her and she didn’t think the sight was ever going to leave her mind. She was likely to see it in nightmares for years to come. How was it possible for someone to do something like that?
The fact that a little flame of annoyance had sparked up when the woman had started speaking to Denny had not been lost on Iris. She hardly knew him, but she couldn’t help how she felt. Still, the bloody mess… It kept trying to take her attention back and it kept managing it.

Denny couldn’t believe she had actually used her hand. It couldn’t have been her hand because Cythraul or not, nobody had that kind of strength. The woman had to have used a knife of some kind and just not be holding it now. He frantically clung to that thought, trying to rationalise the mess and destruction in front of him. His Catholic upbringing ensured that he knew of demons and the like, but common sense told him otherwise.
The Welshman shifted slightly, easing ever so subtly to the side without even being fully aware of it. It had taken a few moments for Iris’s grip on his arm to be noticed but when it had he moved slightly in front of her, automatically trying to protect even if he was no use with someone holding a weapon of any kind.
“I work here,” Denny answered at last, his voice lower and more intense sounding than normal. He was proud of the way his voice didn’t shake as he spoke, resolutely keeping his eyes off the body of his friend and onto the face of the person who had killed him.

"Ooh, I love that accent, pet." Yelena cooed, shivering visibly and rubbing her hands together lazily. The movement of the two humans was not lost on her, or the way the woman clutched his arm, fear shining in both their eyes and permeating their scents completely. Intoxicating. She shifted her weight a little, holding her spot but jutting out a hip, resting a blood-spattered hand against the coat as she did so. She'd just have to buy another one because the possibilities here were endless and she was suddenly hit with a revelation of sorts; there were all kinds of strength, maybe she had been looking for the wrong sort all this time.
Her eyes turned to the brunette and she smiled, a twisting of her lips that held absolutely no warmth, "If you're hoping for protection from me dearest you won't find it behind him. Noble as this...fine young man is, if I wanted to kill you I just...would." she sniffed unneeded air derisively and then turned her pale yellow eyes to the man, "I'm impressed though, no vomit, no tears... not even a reflex curse or two. You must have the faith of a Saint..." At that she smiled a little, something obviously amusing her greatly at that idea.

“He is with God now,” Denny replied, swallowing harshly as he spoke. The numbness in his chest was rapidly starting to fade away and when that was gone he would have to feel everything. Have to accept that the ‘he’ they were talking about was his friend and mentor. He could feel tears prickling at his eyes and burning hotly, giving the lie to the woman’s statement although they refused to fall.
“What do you want?” he asked her, internally wondering just why she hadn’t killed – tried to kill – them yet. She hadn’t wasted any time with Father MacKenzie… and just like that he could feel his heart contract, sorrow and grief battling to be felt past the numbness.

Yelena nodded, as if she were seriously thinking about what the object of her attention had just said. With God, was he? She was of the firm belief that God did indeed exist but as much as she hated his representatives on Earth, or whatever people wanted to think of Priests as, she despised God more. He honestly thought that the dead priest was with God, well fine but in her mind this Church wasn't His house anymore, not after what she'd done and from now on she was taking charge. The thought made her feel rather warm inside. Or maybe that was the fresh blood... She ignored the statement though, moving onto the question. What she wanted. He was seriously asking her what she wanted.
"I'm an addict." She started, languidly, "I have this.... need, this hole that I have to fill and no matter how hard I look I can't find the one piece that fits. I've tried everything, every shape, size, colour and," Yelena paused for dramatic effect, a tiny wicked smile twitched at the corner of her lips as she continued "flavour but nothing fills me up." she started to walk forwards, approaching the pair.

This was getting too creepy in Iris’s opinion and she thought that leaving was the best idea. Still gripping Denny’s arm, she put a little pressure on it, just enough to hopefully get her point silently across to him. We should go while we have the chance, but I’m not leaving without you. Even as she thought that, she wondered if Poppy had done as she had been told. Not likely.
Iris shifted in her spot slightly, watching the woman silently around Denny’s arm. She didn’t need to be an expert in the weird and unexplained to know that there was something seriously wrong with the woman. And not just the fact that she had strolled into a church and killed a priest, though that was definitely a part of it. She put her free hand on the back of Denny’s jacket and gave a gentle tug. Come on.

The woman was – and he wasn’t ashamed to admit it, even if only internally – really starting to scare Denny, unlike anyone he had ever met before. The last time he remembered fear like this – cold, freezing cold, almost enough to paralyse you in place – had been when he had been a child, trapped along in an old mine. But this time he didn’t have his dad the hero to find him and protect him. Instead it was up to Denny to play that part and try and protect Iris as best he could.
He stumbled backwards at the gentle tug on his jacket, silently agreeing with the movement. It was time they both got out of here and fast, even if his mind did scream at leaving Father MacKenzie behind in such an undignified state. Denny backed up slowly with Iris, eyes as always fixed on the danger.

Sharp eyes flickered once more between the man and woman and her playful air was dropped instantaneously, taking in the tug, the step back, silent movements that shouted to her that her 'prey' was trying to escape. Though Yelena was much more interested in the potential that she sensed in this young male, she wasn't even that bothered with killing the girl, though if she got in her way she'd sure as hell knock her down. Possessiveness had already started in her veins, she wanted him for herself and that was that. Hers he would be one way or another.
"Don't move any further." She said darkly, settling her eyes on the man. Another step, another closing of the gap that separated the three of them, "If you really want to be a hero then you'll do exactly what I say, sweetness. Otherwise I might start feeling a little put out," she emphasised the final two words, taking her time to clip her 'T's as her eyes narrowed in apparent annoyance.

Denny stopped moving again, fighting every thing in him that was starting to say he needed to get out of here and fast. He didn’t like the constant nicknames, or the interest she seemed to be taking in him… it unnerved him. The way she was looking at him as if he was either dinner or something to play with, rather how the family cat had looked when chasing mice.
“What do you want?” he asked again, head half turning to look at Iris, worry clear in his eyes. He didn’t want to be responsible for her getting hurt, and he didn’t know what else to do besides at least play along with the woman for now.

Iris returned Denny’s gaze, the worry she was feeling just as pronounced in her eyes as it was in his. What she wanted more than anything right now was to take off running, pulling him behind her. She didn’t particularly want to stay there, but she, like him, was really at a loss as to what else to actually do at the moment. Although, running still sounded really, really good.
Denny wasn’t the only one who didn’t like the nicknames or the way the woman was looking at him. Despite knowing that it was ridiculous due to the fact that she had only just met him, Iris was none too pleased with them herself.

She reached into her coat pocket deliberately and there was a silent pause, but when she pulled her hand out again, there was no knife, no firearm, just a packet of cigarettes and a lighter. She drew out one of the white sticks and stuck it in between her lips. Next she flicked open the golden lighter and snapped a flame out of it; drawing yet more air she didn't need through the cigarette as she light it. She blew smoke around her in a cloud and replaced the box and lighter in her pocket, bloody fingers reaching up and snatching the cigarette. "Eager to please? That bodes well for you, you'll find me much more agreeable if you ask what I want frequently," She smiled, "I want you to come with me, nice and quietly. The girl stays and if you choose to make a fuss..." she hissed then paused to inhale through her cigarette again, "...well, I can leave her intact or not so much..."

Oh, that was just it. Screw the bitch being a murderer; she had just had it. She pushed lightly past Denny and found that she was so angry now that she could barely figure out where to start. “If you want to make a threat towards me, say to me, you bi-” She barely managed to catch herself, but she managed it. “Why don’t you just go scr-” Watch it… “Jump off a building.”

It went without saying that Denny didn’t want to go quietly with the woman, he wanted to go very far away from the woman. She had killed his friend in the house of God, threatened him and someone he could grow to like, smoked and now expected him to just walk tamely beside her? It rankled but what else could he do? She was going to hurt Iris otherwise and the grisly corpse in the confessional box was a reminder of what she did to people she hurt.
Before he could say anything however, Iris had pushed past him, apparently sans her mind. His mouth dropped open slightly in shock and horror before it snapped shut again, hand reaching out to try and tug her away and behind him again.

Her patience had already been wearing thin, boredom with the chit chat getting to her, making her muscles tense and now the girl dared to speak to her like that? She was not in the mood to talk anymore. She wanted to get the hell out of the Church and take her new 'friend' home. Yelena sneered, moving forwards quickly and dropping the cigarette to the floor without a second thought. She didn't allow the man to pull the woman back though she saw him try. She snatched her by the jaw instead and yanked her close, her limbs moving with a disturbing mix of grace and power.
"What was that? Were you going to call me a bitch? Tell me to go screw myself?" She squeezed tightly, her eyes flared a brilliant shade of angry red and she pulled her face right up to the woman's, "Big mistake little girl, I gave you the option to remain in one piece but you had to interrupt and now things are going to get very painful for you very quickly."

Iris heard her cell phone, which she had still been holding, clatter to the floor, but it sounded like it was some distance away. Both hands were now around the woman’s wrist and she was fighting back a sound of pain, preferring to go with a good, old fashioned glare. Never mind that her mind was reeling in panic and she was ready to scream in terror as the woman’s eyes went red. She wasn’t going to give her that satisfaction. Instead, she said, her voice completely defiant despite everything, “Go ahead, then.”
