The pen was put back where he had pulled it from. At the same time he pushed the napkin into the safety of his pocket.
“Past your bedtime,” he said, “but you just ordered the biggest espresso we make.” He sounded amused and allowed himself to sound that way, even offering her another crooked smile at the same time.

“I have a crazy metabolism,” she told him with a laugh that was overtly flirtatious. It wasn't hard for her to be flirty, she spent her day job (nigt job?) being flirty and yet unattainable, but standing in Starbucks in her ridiculous outfit with her shoes in her hand it was natural and easy and relaxed to flirt with the cute human boy she'd almost given a birthday lap dance to. Weirdly thrilling, too. Like it was ever-so-slightly taboo. But this wasn't the club, no one was going to chide or tell her off here. And anyway, like Lola would care if they did, she had a good feeling about this one.
“This’ll get me home and by the time I’m in the door I’ll be asleep, trust me," she continued. It wasn't exactly a lie, she did have a crazy metabolism and after the hours she'd spent prior to this encounter she thought she could probably sleep if she sat down at any of the tables nearby.

Crazy metabolism. She wasn’t the first person he’d met to have something like that so when Corin nodded it was with genuine understanding of what it meant. Bailey was one of those people, as it happened. He had seen her packing away enough food for several people in one sitting before, more than once actually.
“In that outfit?” he asked, making a vague gesture at what she was wearing. Better a gesture than what could so easily become a crude raking of his eyes down and up said outfit, drawing entirely too much attention to what he could see of the body beneath. Not that anyone else in the vicinity needed help noticing her figure.

“Are you asking me what I wear to bed?” she asked with a coquettish lift of her shoulder and a dip of her chin to meet it. It was really too easy to flirt with him; even with his colleagues behind the counter casting periodic looks over in their direction and commenting amongst themselves about what she was wearing and wasn't she one of those strippers from that club? it hardly dampened her mood which had been vastly improved since walking into the coffee place. “I think that’s a third date conversation.”

Corin lifted his shoulders in a shrug that only went halfway. “You can’t blame a guy for trying,” he said, dropping his shoulders afterwards. If anything the fact that his co-workers could hear what they were saying to one another just improved the whole situation. Over the time he had worked in this place he had had to put up with so much of their crap. It was time for a little payback. Not that that was the only thing that made this interaction enjoyable. Far from it.
“Third date, right?” he asked. “I’ll remember that.”

“Third date,” she repeated, confirming. “No spoilers before then.”
The truth was that Lola was about as normal as any other woman, she certainly didn't sleep in the kind of things that she wore at work, they weren't uncomfortable outfit but she was used to them by now. More than likely she could be found in tees and shorts. There were things she wore for special occasions though, she didn't know many girls who didn't have at least some nice lingerie. Lola had a little more and some, but still.

“Third date.” Confirming her confirmation, adding a nod for good measure. “No spoilers.” That crooked smile was back. “All right.” It was difficult not to feel hopeful, not when they were already getting along so well, not when she was teasing at that third date already.
Still, in his mind it was important not to be too eager. They might have been getting along well now but it didn't take much to put people off, he'd seen it happen dozens of times from behind this very counter and wasn't about to make the same mistake himself.

Lola laughed again, naturally, easily. It wasn’t all that common for someone to make her laugh so much without effort and she liked it, it was a big part of why she was encouraging him, why she had taken an instant liking to him. Possibly because she was, underneath it all, a fairly serious woman, She had a long past after all, much longer than Corin could possibly suspect. She'd seen a lot in her time, it took a toll.
“I’m gonna go,” she said, gesturing at the coffee. “As much as I would love to stand here and flirt with you all morning.”

“Who knows,” he said, leaning his hands on the counter again, “maybe you’ll get in another bar fight.” He could hear the others shuffling around nearby, trying to appear busy without making too big an attempt. The words bar fight had gotten their attention, that much was clear. Corin couldn't even begin to imagine what was running through their minds, even if they had caught the beginning of the conversation they had a habit of letting their imaginations run away with them. “Anything can happen.”

“You have no idea,” Lola told him with a wry smile at how true the statement was, the irony was like breath held in her lungs. Anything was a pretty all encompassing word, but by her estimation and given everything that she had seen in what was still a relatively short life span for a werewolf, it was accurate enough. There really was never any telling what would happen tomorrow or an hour from now, being prepared for the worst was usually her modus operandi and all anyone could ever do.
After a moment she added; “I’m a seasoned trouble maker after all,” with a wink.

“Then I should watch myself,” he said, raising his brows a little. “You might drag me down with you or something.”
Corin wasn't normally like this with people, even young women as attractive as Lola very obviously was. It wasn't really in his nature to tease or flirt, he was the friendly guy who minded his manners and let the other guys in his social circle make idiots out of themselves as they fell over one another to make an impression. In this setting, somewhere he felt comfortable -- as much as he hated to admit he felt comfortable in this place that was slowly sucking out his soul -- it didn't strike him as so ridiculous, he didn't feel stupid acting this way. Or maybe it was just Lola, something about her putting him so at ease that he was saying these things that would usually be so unusual for him.

While she was working Lola was every man's best friend, so long as they could pay for their drinks and kept their hands to themselves; she was paid handsomely to turn of her vast reserve of charms, paid to smile softly and purr sweet nothings and act like every man was a rockstar, a king, the center of her universe. Outside of the club she was more likely to punch a guy in the throat than flirt with him. Corin was different though, not just because he'd declined a lap dance from her and done so politely and even apologetically, but just because there was something about him that she liked. His gentleman qualities were just a bonus really. Hence the fairly intense flirting from her end.
So much for leaving. Lola leaned on the counter again, “Only if you’re lucky,” she told him in a low, warm voice.

It didn't take a genius to figure out -- no matter how talented an actor he was -- that this wasn't what Corin wanted to do with his life. Ideally he would be on a stage or a film set but it really wasn't as simple as wanting it, being good at it, and getting it, especially in this city. Corin had known that coming in but it seemed like all he'd done since getting here was receive apologetic phone calls and wishes of more luck for the future. One step forward, two steps back. Really, meeting Lola was the true highlight of the last however many months it had been since he'd had any kind of good news in his chosen field. Maybe this was a sign that his luck was changing. Corin wasn't sure he believed in things like that but he couldn't help but feel more optimistic when he was face to face with Lola. Strange really, considering they barely knew one another.
Corin smiled. “If I’m lucky?” His fingers drummed on the countertop. “In that case I’ll have to keep my fingers crossed, won’t I?”

“Fingers, toes, everything,” she told him.
Most people would probably question whether stripping was what Lola really wanted to be doing with her life and the simple answer to that was just that, simple. No. All she had ever wanted was to be a dancer, a real ballerina. Lola knew she couldn't have done that forever, not constantly, she was blessed and cursed with everlasting youth and that meant a certain degree of secrecy and movement was necessary. Still, she could have had a few good years in a Russian company, maybe. Or London. That was all done with now, she didn't trust that she could pursue that with her mother out there, looking for her.

“Everything? Wow.” Corin chuckled. “Okay, I’ll cross everything.”
The others were still milling around, trying to appear as though they really weren't listening in on Corin's conversation with this mysterious and striking young woman who was wearing what had to be one of the most unusual outfits they'd ever seen inside of this establishment, and that was saying something. They never really knew who -- or what -- was going to walk through that door on any given day and Corin had seen his fair share of shocking and unexpected sights. They would bombard him with questions when Lola actually left, he was fully prepared for that, but he wasn't going to give them much. It would drive them mad, they wouldn't let up, but Corin actually liked the idea of keeping them in the dark. At the end of the day it was none of their business.
