Lola was still watching him as she placed the money for her coffee and the cinnamon swirl (her favourite) on the counter, she nodded to his assessment, raking her teeth over her bottom lip. It had not escaped her notice that the other staff were still listening but trying to act as though they weren't with their casual (obvious) glances (stares). She arched a brow at one of them who suddenly became deeply invested in the glass he was wiping.
“And I’ll hear from you soon,” she said, a leading statement rather than a question, purse going back in her bag, coffee in one hand.

He didn't miss that significant glance she gave to one of his co-workers and he couldn't help but smile at the reaction. A couple of the others wandered off rather hurriedly to tend to things that didn't really need doing but it gave them something to -- at least pretend to -- do while Lola got herself organised so she could go on her way. They were biding their time, impatiently waiting to pounce on Corin with all the questions he could already see in their eyes when he glanced their way.
“Yes you will.” Corin took the money from the counter as he said as much. “Good luck avoiding the early morning creeps on your way home.” Because nothing brought out the creep in people you thought were normal like a scantily clad woman walking by.

Smiling, Lola backed away from the counter o that she could still see him. “You mean good luck to the creeps avoiding me,” she corrected. Corin didn’t know it yet, though it was possible he suspected given her story about the bar fight, brief as it had been, but Lola was always more than happy to beat a man into the sidewalk if he got funny ideas.
She was almost at the door, sliding her shades back into place. “Don’t let your friends here make too much fun of you. They’re just jealous.”

Corin didn’t doubt that Lola knew how to take care of herself, he’d gotten that distinct impression the first time they’d met, when she’d respected his decision and decided not to tease him for it and introduced herself as Tex.
He grinned when she mentioned jealousy. His co-workers -- those that hadn't already dispersed -- shuffled and scattered in all directions when he turned to look at them. It was difficult not to laugh. “And why shouldn’t they be?” he said as he turned his gaze back on Lola by the door.

Lola didn’t bother trying not to laugh. Sometimes humans were just so weird, the way these ones dispersed as Corin looked in their direction was pretty hilarious. Another good answer, too. She nodded.
“Ciao, Corin,” she said in a lightly flirtatious voice, honestly sorry to cut their conversation short but desperately in need of coffee and her apartment and her bed and she was optimistic that he would call before too long.

“Until next time,” he returned, lifting his hand in a casual kind of wave despite the fact that he was already mentally working out just how long he should leave it before giving her that call he’d promised. Because he was definitely going to call her, she was right to be optimistic about that. It wasn’t every day that guys like him managed to win the interest of girls like Lola and Corin wasn’t about to take that for granted.
