Cole looked between Heidi and Dia, settling his eyes on the Beta female at last. Sighing gently, he offered Heidi an almost apologetic smile. "Listen, if Kyle comes up, and you change your mind, tell him to come find me." It wasn't a big problem if she really didn't feel like talking to the fighter; he wouldn't blame her, either way.
Turning his eyes to Dia, he paused, before saying, "I think I need a new shirt." He briefly lifted the somewhat torn sweater for emphasis. It was a not-so-subtle hint for them to retreat. Heidi didn't seem to be in the mood for company, which, given the full moon, was understandable...
"You know where to find us, if we're needed." With another faint smile, he glanced to his mate again, and then walked away from the desk, sweater in hand.

Heidi nodded at the departing Alphas, stifling a sigh. The wolf in her mind whined piteously; it sensed that the Alphas were...well, perhaps displeased was the wrong word. They had picked up on her mood, and reacted accordingly; they were, she knew, trying to respect her boundaries.
And they probably don't want me around any more than I want them around, right now.
Ordinarily, she very much enjoyed the company of Cole and Dia; it went without saying, really. Just...not now. Not during this phase of the moon. Not when they had each other, and all she had -- all she ever would have, most likely -- was her work. And though almost any other day she could convincingly argue that that was enough, tonight it wasn't. Tonight she was faced with the truth. It wasn't enough...and it never would be.

"Yeah, you do," Dia replied with a laugh as she moved to follow Cole out of the lobby, giving a parting glance to Heidi as she did so. It did seem like there was more than the she was admitting bothering The Beta. But the other female had made it clear that she wanted neither Dia nor Cole to be overly concerned about it, so there really wasn't much else they could do at the moment besides respect her apparent wishes. Particularly since they didn't seem to be ones that were causing any undue harm- just perhaps a downward shift in mood.

All right, Kyle, where are you? Heidi thought, staring at the elevator doors and all but willing them to open. Very possibly he would stay downstairs all night -- perhaps to apologize to Mara when she came out in the morning. She sighed.
The moon was up, so she would be comparitively "all right" until midnight. Moonrise and midnight were the two most difficult times of any full moon night for her. She never did quite understand that -- moonrise, yes, but why midnight? Even on nights when the moon was waxing or waning, she always knew exactly when it was midnight; the time seemed somehow ingrained into her.
She sighed again. Should she continue to wait? Well, it's not like you have anything else to do. Besides, you know your duty to the pack. Your Alpha asked you to do this. You'll do it. And she would, she knew.
But for one wild moment, she longed to go up to the roof and howl.

Continued from: The Basement.
The ride up from the basement had been short, and silent, save for the hum of the workings of the elevator itself. When the doors opened, Kyle was a little surprised to see Cole was conspicuously absent, as was Dia. Instead, he immediately saw and detected the scent of Heidi, who sat at the old, large reception desk across the lobby.
Taking a moment, he strode out of the elevator doors, and walked towards the Beta female, having a vague idea of what might be going on. For some reason, he was oddly aware that he was wearing no shirt, though he wasn't sure why something so simple was on his mind all of a sudden.

"Ah, Kyle." Heidi blinked, quite as surprised by Kyle's lack of upper attire as he had been to notice the fact. "Cole...Cole asked me to talk to you. About what happened downstairs, I mean. Do you want to tell me just what happened? I wasn't there, you know." Of course she'd already heard it from Cole, but she thought in situations like this that it was best to hear everyone's point of view before saying anything.

"Oh."
The lycanthrope of few words was, not surprisingly, quiet for a time, contemplating Heidi's request, and doing so thoroughly.
"The new wolf, Mara, lost control. I stepped in to keep her at bay," he began, deciding to unnecessarily gloss over the fact that his wolf had seen a threat to Cole in that moment, "and she took it as a challenge. And I... accepted." He was rather ashamed about that fact... or rather, as ashamed as Kyle got about things, which was hard to tell - his expressions wavered very little from one to the next.
"We knocked each other around a little, and then... I suppose I pushed her too hard. She hit the wall. She came at me again, but Cole had stepped between us, and she struck him instead." Making a point of meeting the Beta's gaze respectfully, he added in conclusion, "After that, she submitted, and then stepped into a room without incident."

"I see...it sounds like Mara's wolf may have panicked over the confinement situation, or something along those lines," Heidi said thoughtfully. "Well, Kyle...you know it isn't that Cole doesn't appreciate your defending him. We're all very glad to have you around, and it's comforting the way you make a point of especially trying to protect the Alphas. But really...you know you should have known better than to accept a perceived challenge from such a young wolf, especially at the full moon."
Considering her own annoying difficulties on this particular evening, Heidi was rather pleased at how much control she was able to maintain. Control is the key, she told the pacing wolf in her mind. Always. She'd made a point to keep her tone very calm and neutral, and her words unaccusatory.
Standing, she moved out from around the desk, and her expression was gentle. "I know you well enough to know that you won't let this happen again," she told Kyle. "So I'm not even going to worry about telling you not to repeat the performance. Just...remember that Mara's one of us now, all right? She's here for the same reason we're all here, and we all need to help her settle in. She's frightened, and I'm sure she feels absolutely terrible for accidentally hurting Cole. I know you'll make peace with her in the morning." She did have great confidence in Kyle to do the right thing.

Kyle listened, as was his way. He watched, and he listened, and he was always aware. It was what he did, in its simplest term. When she was finished - considering he wouldn't even think of trying to interrupt an Alpha or Beta while they were speaking - he met her gaze as she stood before him, only doing so when she had stopped talking.
Taking in a breath, he nodded his head. "I didn't mean to hurt her," he assured Heidi, having a feeling his saying as much hadn't even been necessary in the first place. After all, he was devoted and loyal, but by no means a thug or brutal. He had only meant to keep Mara at bay, and not draw any blood.

"There's no doubt in my mind about that," she replied. "I know you'd never hurt another pack member on purpose, Kyle. And Cole knows it too. We just need you to be more careful in the future, all right? Your loyalty to the Alphas is an amazing thing; just make sure it doesn't blind you to your duty to the rest of the pack." Heidi smiled, hoping that would take any possible sting out of her words.

Looking back to the Beta female, in order to acknowledge her while she was talking to him, Kyle inhaled slowly; quietly and deeply. And then he nodded his head. It was a subtle motion, accompanied by calm words in his usual deep, pensive tones, "It won't happen again. I promise."
Any disappointment in the Alphas or Betas aimed at him was a failure in Kyle's eyes, and any time that happened, he ensured it was never repeated. Or he at least did his best, and made sure it wasn't the same mistake, at the very least.
He would apologise personally to Cole later - and the only thing stopping him from doing so right away was the fact that he could detect Dia's recent scent in the lobby, indicating that the Alphas would be spending some time alone together - and to Mara in the morning. He really hadn't meant to hurt her; his devotion and the pull of the full moon had simply gotten in the way of his ability to judge what was a real threat, and what was simply unavaoidable for the younger wolf.

"I'm sure it won't." Heidi reached out and patted his shoulder reassuringly. "Now...I'm guessing there's enough watchers in the basement, since Cole didn't ask me to go back down there, so I'll let you....well, I imagine you want to go put on another shirt. And then do whatever gets you through this night easiest. I should probably go check on Cassidy again, I did promise her I would." She offered Kyle another smile. "I'll be around, if anyone needs me."

Kyle wanted to check Mara hadn’t — accidentally, he was sure — caused him any harm beyond what he had felt in his mouth down in the basement, and perhaps shower. He was noticeably tense, and hopefully a cold shower would help with that. Maybe after that, one of the other fighters would spar with him… or he could simply return to the basement and keep watch; relieve Mileena or William, perhaps.
Giving a respectful, affirming nod to the Beta female, he didn’t need to say anything to show his appreciation for how she handled his ‘disciplining’. Kyle wasn’t usually one to cross any lines, and he was determined not to let it happen again… if he could help it. Sometimes, he just couldn’t keep a lid on his loyalty, and it led to things like this.

"Good man." Heidi wasn't wholly certain why she phrased it that way; she just wanted to be sure Kyle knew that they weren't angry with him. Giving his shoulder one more affectionate pat, she headed toward the stairs, thinking she would climb those to burn off a bit of energy.

Continued from: Alphas’ Bedroom.
When he reached the lobby, he wasn’t all that surprised to find a few members of the pack already milling about; fetching breakfast, or shuffling into the TV lounge to catch the early morning cartoons and the like. He returned the greetings and acknowledgements as any Alpha would, and smiled softly to himself as he saw Kyle waiting by the desk that had once been used to admit visitors.
They acknowledged one another, respectively, and Cole guessed at Kyle’s reason for being there at all; “Mara will need to eat; I’ll bring her up myself, and you can apologise in person.” He smiled faintly, noticing Kyle’s fidget, before the blonde fighter nodded. With that, the Alpha headed for the elevator, stepping into it and pressing the button for the basement without hesitation.
