“Steven’s a mystery, as always, then,” Cole teased quietly, watching her dress the wound, which would probably have healed by the next night at the latest. It would be a minor annoyance at best, and probably one he wouldn’t be able to keep Dia from finding out about, even if he tried. He’d smiled warmly at Cassidy’s behaviour, and asked, “Do I need to buy her a new lamp?”
“I hope you’re not buying high-quality lamps, because yes, you do. Hopefully that’s something she’ll eventually outgrow. But apart from that, she’s doing pretty well tonight.” Heidi finished bandaging the Alpha’s arm. “There you go, chief.”
Chuckling again, he shook his head. “I think we can afford to replace a few lamps now and again.” Truthfully, those pack members with jobs made enough income to support the entire group, remarkably, and on top of that, many of them had savings that were donated, whether it be for bills, or conveniences. They were surprisingly comfortable, financially. “Thanks,” he acknowledged, as she finished the dressing, glancing to it even though he knew she had already done a good job on it. “And how’re you holding up?” Cole met his Beta female’s gaze inquiringly, cocking his head slightly as he took his sweater from the counter.

Heidi shrugged. "About as well as I usually do, on the occasion of this delightful astrological phenomenon. In other words, I'm not happy but I'm surviving."
For a moment, her wolf howled piteously in her head, and she sensed her eyes waning gold. Silence, she told it. It's nothing we haven't done before.

Cole nodded, acknowledging and agreeing. “We all know the feeling, Heidi,” he assured her softly. She was a good friend, and he wanted her to be calm, and safe; she wasn’t in any danger, obviously, but he didn’t like seeing anyone he cared about uncomfortable or stressed — anything negative. “You’ll work through it, like always.” He smiled again, a subtle but strong expression that would hopefully put her at ease.
“You said Dia’s testy?” he inquired, tilting his head to the side almost curiously, and with a hint of mischief that was surely enhanced by the moon’s cycle.

"Well, no more than usual," Heidi replied with a smile. "I'm teasing. She's fine, which is the important part, and I'm sure she's waiting for you."
She elected not to comment on the rest of his remarks. Work through it like always. By myself. As much as she loved them both, for three days out of every month, Heidi seriously resented the Alphas. She didn't want to...but she couldn't help it.

If Cole had known had Heidi felt about Dia and himself during this time of the month, he would probably understand where she was coming from. After all, the full moon was easier to handle when you weren’t handling it alone. None of them were truly alone, obviously, but those with mates found these nights easier to handle. Dia helped Cole through the tension, and did things for him that no one else could, no matter how long he had known them. Her support and comfort were saving graces.
Sighing lightly, he narrowed his eyes with a slight frown. “You sure you’re all right?”

"I'm fine, Cole. Or as close to it as I can be," she amended, forcing a smile. She may have been in her period of resentment toward the bond between the Alphas, but there was no reason to be rude. She adored Cole, in truth; he was the big brother she had never had. It wasn't his fault that she was a "lone" wolf.
"Just don't expect me to fix your sweater," she added, her smile turning more genuine. "Needlework is definitely not my forte."

Comforted by her reassurance — given that she never lied to him, if she could help it — Cole smiled, and then simply laughed at her quip about needlework. “Oh, I’ll find some way to fix it,” he assured her calmly, shaking his head. “Something tells me Dia won’t do it either… mainly because she’d have too much fun telling me to do it myself. She’s hardly a housewife.” He grinned briefly at the small tease about his mate, and then sighed again.
“I suppose I should go find her anyway.” He pulled a face, leaning on the counter a little. “Heidi… I hate to ask, but the others in the pack, even the fighters; I think sometimes they look to you more than they look to me, or Dia. You’re a great deal more comforting than any of us, and if they need to hear some sort of… well, anything that might come off as lecturing from me… they take it better from someone like you.” He smiled softly, realising he hadn’t explained that very well. “Long story short — I told Kyle to come up and see me, because I wanted to remind him that Mara’s new, and she didn’t mean anything. I know he’s protective, and I appreciate his devotion, but he hurt her tonight, and he needn’t have been so rough with her.”

"I see what you mean." Heidi nodded thoughtfully. "All right. I'll wait for him to come up, and try to find out what he was doing. If he finds you first, send him to me. We'll sort this out so it doesn't happen again. Like you say, he's protective, but he's got to become more disciplined." She looked contemplative as she sat down in one of the chairs to wait for Kyle.

As the moon had come into its full force, Dia did her part in patrolling the Hyperion, making those that needed to be downstairs were and that the others were faring well enough outside of confinement. But at the moment there was a far more pressing matter weighing on her mind.
Mates did tend to have an almost uncanny connection at times and it was only heightened by the full moon. Dia and Cole were no exception and not very long ago she hadn't been able to soothe the apprehension that something wasn't right with him, and immediately went in search of her mate. It hadn't taken long for her to find him in the lobby with Heidi. The smell of blood was pungent in the air even before she was near. His blood. Dia did her best to calm the wolf within as she caught sight of him, as at a glance he seemed to be all right. Still there was this overwhelming urge to know if there was a who involved as to the reason why her mate had been bleeding, and if there was….well it was fairly clear where that train of thought ended. Sparing a nod of recognition to Heidi, Dia immediately moved towards Cole, concern, worry, and probably quite a few less pleasant things obvious in her expression.
"Cole, what happened?" Which was about as calm and cordial as her request for an explanation was going to get.

Cole had detected Dia’s approaching scent before she’d even entered the lobby, but it wouldn’t have done any good to try and hide the obviously fresh bandage on his left arm; she had already smelt his blood, obviously, and it showed in her eyes that she wanted answers. Sooner, rather than later. Cole’s expression wasn’t too unlike the typical ‘deer in headlights’ as he was accosted by his mate, and asked for an explanation. He wasn’t going to be getting out of telling her what happened, he knew, and it wasn’t fair to his mate to even try and hide the truth anyway.
“A little… ‘incident’ down in the basement. But it’s under control.” He paused, knowing that wasn’t going to cut it, as explanations went. Dia wouldn’t be satisfied with an abbreviated version, and never really had been; she’d want the details. “Mara’s wolf started taking over, and Kyle decided to get a little too defensive, as always. They started fighting, and I stepped in when he threw her into the wall. They’d both transformed by that point, and she — accidentally — caught me on the arm before she could stop herself.”
Making sure to meet her gaze fully, he added to reassure her, “Nobody else was hurt, and it could have been a lot worse.” Smiling, he calmly tucked back some of her dark hair, watching it fall over her shoulder. “I’m fine.”

Any other time the sweet gesture would have calmed her far more than it did, but the combination of everything had her just a bit too agitated for that to happen. But as always, it did soothe her some. "It can always be worse."
Cole had been right in assuming she'd want the unabridged version of events. If any member of the pack had been harmed somehow, especially him, she would want to know exactly how it had happened, no skimming of details acceptable. To her is sounded as if Kyle had done exactly what he was supposed to do; help protect his alpha and the pack in general. Not to imply that Cole couldn't protect or take care of himself, but he did kind of have a huge bite in his arm right now. Dia might have to have a talk with the male fighter herself later. Mara was new to them, not even officially a member of the pack, and as harsh as it sounded pack members came first, especially the male alpha, especially her mate. Even with the pull of the moon Dia knew well enough when she might be overreacting and forced herself to calm a bit. "Everything's ok down there now?" And yes, she did realize Cole had already said as much, but humor her a bit on this.

He sighed lightly, taking his hand from her face after tucking the dark hair away. Nodding, he confirmed verbally as well, "Everything's fine. As soon as she hit me, she stopped, and after I asked her to, she went into a room without any trouble." Or at least without any further trouble. "I left Kyle, William and Mileena to see that the rest of them get settled in for the night."
Normally, he liked to stick around for the duration of the confinement process for himself, but after being injured - if only in a minor fashion such as this - it hadn't made sense for him to linger. And Heidi would have prompted him to come back up either way. The fighters could handle the rest of the process without him, he knew, and that was why such a decision wasn't bothering him.
"It'll be healed by tomorrow night," he assured her, not even glancing at the dressing on his tattooed arm. Her comment about 'it can always be worse' was something that both Alphas agreed on, even if silently. It came from experience, perhaps unfortunately; it really could always be worse. If someone was hurt, then they could have been killed. If someone was killed, then more could have suffered. It was the only positive way of looking at any negative situation, really... Cole and Dia had learned that long ago, and stuck by it.

Heidi felt uncomfortable, watching the exchange between the Alphas, though it probably had more to do with the moon than anything else. She felt like she had no business being present for this conversation, and the blonde wolf pacing in her mind had an overpowering urge to slink away.
"Would you two prefer to be left alone?" she inquired, somewhat dubiously.

It might not have been the most optimistic way of looking at things, but it was probably the most realistic. And the way that kept the pack as together as it was. Hope for the best but be prepared for the worst was generally a line of thinking that had served them well thus far for so many years.
Hearing Heidi's voice she turned her attention to the other woman present. She hadn't meant to be rude and ignore, especially not Heidi but she had just been preoccupied at the moment.
"No, that's- you don't have to." After all, they'd probably be heading to their own room soon enough; there was no reason for Heidi to feel like she had to leave at the moment. Dia shook her head, then looked at Heidi somewhat curiously. "You all right?" The Beta did seem a bit more on edge than was usual for her. Of course, it could have been the moon but it seemed like it could be something else…

It took some doing for Heidi not to snap at Dia. I'd be just fine if people would stop asking me if I'm all right. But as with Cole, she reminded herself that it was not Dia's fault that she wanted to climb the walls.
"The moon," she said with a shrug. "It'll pass." It was going to take a lot of restraint for her not to yell at Kyle, whenever he decided to put in his appearance, but she'd do what was necessary. What was expected.
