Continued from: The Silver Hands; Room 110 with Mara, Kyle etc.
Kyle and William returned the cars to their places while Cole, Mileena and the others waited for Mara at the door. Cole's hands had automatically found his pockets as he stood there, watching her pull up in her Jeep to meet them. He offered her another smile, thinking it important to remind her that she was among people she could trust. Of course, if Kyle didn't crack a smile, it wouldn't be out of the ordinary, but it might help if he made the effort.
They were rejoined by the two large males when Cole gestured to the doors, leading the way back into The Hyperion, and subsequently, home.

Mara parked her jeep and exited the car warily. The energy around the entire building seemed different to anything she'd ever felt. The whole thing felt ...strangely familiar. Walking slowly, she entered the lobby where she saw Cole waiting for her with several people -- the female she recognized, as well as the large male she'd given her bag to. The other large males were intimidating in size, but held themselves very casually.
As she was close enough to speak, she waved nervously to the ones who had accompanied Cole, and stopped infront of the pack leader. "So...this is home?" Her skin crawled with energy - the curiousity was obvious around her, and the lack of hostility was comforting. There was also an immediate acceptance and ...something else she couldn't place. Everything was curious, and her wolf felt at peace, yet wanting to burst out at the same time.

Removing his jacket in a nonchalant manner, Cole nodded his head. "This is home," he confirmed, already detecting the scents of intrigued pack members who had heard the group's return, and probably picked up on the stranger in their midst. They more or less all knew they would probably have a newcomer to the hotel today, but there was just no sating a wolf's curiosity so easily.
"I won't overwhelm you by introducing you to everyone just yet. One thing at a time." He smiled at her. "But you might as well know these guys while they're standing here." He went around the young wolves first, working his way up to the oldest, and therefore, most powerful. "And here you have Mileena, William, and Kyle; three of the... I suppose you could call them the pack's 'fighters', but... don't worry; they're not always so... stoic." Mileena smiled, and William chuckled. Kyle, typically, was silently attentive.
As always.

Mara regarded each name and face as he went around. Each relaxed and smiled - the one he tagged as Kyle did not visibly relax - he reminded Mara of a bodyguard she'd photographed once. Later she found out the man he guarded was his brother. There had been the same silent protectiveness and loyalty there. Each member seemed to regard Cole highly, so that spoke volumes to her.
"Fighters." The word roused many questions in her heart, but she kept them, save one. "So a martial artist like myself might find a sparring partner sometime? Someone that I can't...hurt?" The shadow was only on her face for a moment, but she knew at least Cole would see it. "And I'll be helped... in a few days, won't I." She shouldered her bag again and tried to smile. "Well... what's it take to get a shower and some food in this place?"

"You won't lack for sparring partners," Cole chuckled, noting Kyle's slight change in demeanour here, as if he found the idea mildly intriguing; about as intriguing as Kyle would openly appear to find something, anyway. The Alpha had nodded in confirmation of helping her, before she continued.
"There's one thing I'd like to do first, if you wouldn't mind, of course." He looked in her eyes, making contact that way as he persisted, "We have a few human 'staff'; one of them is a doctor, and I've asked him to come by, to check you over... just to make sure everything's okay. He can check your wound for you, to make sure it's not infected."

Mara was a little surprised at the request. His eye contact made her wolf roll inside her, but it wasn't resisting. In fact - it felt strangely like her wolf was very willing to accept it. Bloody hell, this is weird.
"I suppose it makes sense. Lead on then." She rolled her shoulders slightly to try and stay comfortable.

She was taking all of this much better than he could have hoped, which made him optimistic. He nodded, and glanced to William and the others. Soon, it was just Cole, Kyle and Mara left in the lobby, though he noticed the other large male didn't go far, choosing to linger nearby and 'guard' the entrace to the hotel.
"I expect he's in the music room. He's a bit of a piano player, so he spends most of his time there when he's in the hotel. He has a pet dog, which I'm assuming isn't a problem?" He glanced to her as he started to walk for the stairs.
"Oh no. I love dogs. Would've had one with... I mean... before, but we had an apartment."
Cole offered her a smile. "Well, you'll love this one; everybody does." He laughed to himself; he hadn't yet met a single member of the pack who disliked the husky.

Continued from the Hallway with Cole.
Mara took a deep breath as they arrived back into the lobby area where she had arrived a very brief time ago, but seemed strangely distant. Her wolf paced in her subconcious, wondering what it was going to be in for come the moon's call.
She glanced at Cole again, then said quietly - "Every change I've been through since the first has been difficult somehow. When I was in prison I was in solitary - they didn't put in enough food, and I think I nearly died. I suffer from ...issues...if I don't eat regularly. Nothing major -" she added hurriedly as he raised an eyebrow - "it's ust my body seems to burn fuel even more swiftly as a wolf. When they dragged me out of solitary after the change, I was half dead. Another time I was in the woods and a hiking family was there... " Her voice caught. "I was lucky - I managed to try to be clumsy enough going through the brush - my wolf was so angry because it wanted to hunt. I went after the father... it was only, I think, the fact that it was late through the moon's cycle that I was able to keep from killing him in the rage." Guilt washed over her again. She had meant to try and track the family down - see how they were, but it seemed like such a foolish idea.
"And I still don't...understand.. the change. Greg never - " she shook her head. "Greg was never there to explain what was going to happen, and I suppose I would never have listened anyway." She gave a wry smile. "I suppose that now that I'm here... I worry that the change is simply going to be harder still..." and I'll be kicked out on my own again.
Shrugging lightly, she adjusted her ponytail that had come loose in the spar earlier. "Please, lead on. I'm sure you have more important things to be doing than showing the new wolf the ropes."

"I don't," he told her sincerely, shaking his head. He was expecting an email from a regular client for his translations, but other than that, he didn't have anything he needed to be doing. And to him, nothing was more important than making sure the pack were safe, and comfortable; even if it wasn't official yet, that included Mara.
"My first change was when I was about thirteen, so... it's been a while since I had that sort of concern." He pulled a face. "That came out a little wrong, I'm sorry. But there are plenty of younger wolves, many of them bitten, who can advise you. Sissy and Cassidy are relatively young; Cassidy was bitten, and she still has a little trouble with her temper on the full moon. She doesn't change involuntarily anymore, but I've passed her room on the night of the full moon a few times, and... well, I've had to replace her lamps more than once, if you get what I mean." He paused. "Any of them would be glad to share their experiences with you, so you know what you can expect. Full moon in a pack is much better than full moon alone; it's more supportive and controlled. There's a lot of precaution, but it's for everyone's benefit, as I'm sure you can tell."
He led the way from the lobby to the elevator that led down to the basement. "We use this in case any of the wolves break out during the full moon. It's a lot more difficult for them to get up an elevator shaft than a flight of stairs. The older wolves who stay down during the cycle can usually keep anything from happening though, but I can't remember the last time anything like that happened."
When the doors slid open, he entered the car, and waited for Mara to join him.

Mara quietly followed him through the door. It was strange, her wolf was calm, but she was not - and it was a weird sensation.

Continued from The Basement with Cole
"Oh, boy," Heidi sighed as the elevator came to a gentle stop. "I saw the elevator open with no one in it," she explained, "and I could smell your agitation, so I thought something must be wrong. That's why I came down when I did." She moved behind what was once the hotel's main desk; there were first aid supplies stored in different places around the Hyperion, and she deftly retrieved what she needed from the small kit in one drawer. "Roll up your sleeve...let's get this taken care of before anything else."

“Right. I didn’t want her getting up the elevator in wolf form; at her age, she could have done a lot of damage. She wouldn’t have meant it, of course, but if she’d taken the elevator up, and left us all downstairs…” He sighed, and glanced at Heidi, moving over to the desk as well. When she told him to roll up his sleeve, he smiled faintly, and then simply pulled his sweater off over his head altogether.
“That might need repairing,” he remarked casually as he tossed the item of clothing onto the desktop, turning his head to inspect the deep claw marks Mara had left on his upper arm. “At least she didn’t hurt anyone else though… I imagine she’ll be feeling guilty enough in the morning without having to deal with that.”

Heidi nodded briskly, applying her lunar-enhanced efficiency to the task at hand. "It could definitely have been worse, as you say. Though I'm a little surprised at Kyle. He must have thought you were in some sort of danger, to have reacted that way."

“He must have done… but Kyle’s Kyle… you know what he’s like.” Overprotective, to say the least. He glanced around the lobby as she cleaned the wound, wincing momentarily as it stung for a moment. “Still, he was too rough with her. It’s not like him to forget about that sort of thing. I know it’s full moon, but he didn’t need to throw her like that. She had a wound on her head that should hopefully have healed up by morning.”
And if not, then that’s my first order of business tomorrow.
“How’s everyone else holding up?” He knew Heidi usually wandered the corridors of the rooms upstairs to check on anyone who didn’t like company during the peak of the lunar cycle, and being Alpha, it was his responsibility to know the details.

"Dia's comfortable, if edgy. You know her. Cass..." She chuckled. "When I looked in on Cass, she was fully transformed and had made a cozy little nest for herself on her bed. She's really rather calm, I think she'll sleep through most of it." She reported on the rest of the pack members she had encountered. "The only one I can't account for is Steven -- I don't know where he is or what he's doing."
