"Definitely better than usual," Sissy commented, looking over her shoulder to address the older female. "I actually ended up in control before the night was over. I know how unlikely it is that the same thing will happen tonight, but it has me hopeful that maybe- just maybe- it won't take too much longer before I can get control immediately after I change. Then I can actually concentrate on controlling the transformation itself, which would actually be a nice change of pace." She looked back at the shelves, took up a book, studied it for a moment and then put it back. "As for breakfast, I'm sorry I missed your French toast. I had the craving for something not quite so appropriate for the first meal of the day. As in chocolate and pretzels."

"Chocolate and pretzels?" Heidi repeated with a laugh. "That's rather unorthodox. Then again, Ash was contemplating pickles and scrambled eggs when I left the kitchen, so maybe I shouldn't judge." She smiled. "That's very good news about the control, though. It's an important step -- don't discount the significance."

Upon hearing that pickle and eggs together had been contemplated as breakfast, Sissy had been unable to stop herself from making a disgusted face. At least, as far as she was concerned, pretzels and chocolate went together. After all, one could actually find chocolate covered pretzels in stores. When Heidi commented about her managing to get control, Sissy said, "Oh, I know it's a big step, but it's about time I made a little leeway in that area. I had started getting impatient about the whole thing, but now that I've actually made some sort of progress, it feels like all of the work I've been putting towards it hasn't been such a wasted effort after all."

"It comes in baby steps for all of us," Heidi replied, nodding. "I think you're coming along very well, really. You and your wolf are growing more comfortable with each other and that's a big help." She chuckled. "Mine -- well, she and I didn't get along for decades. So you're doing quite nicely, in all truth."

Continued from The Hallway
Mara stuck her head in the door and knocked softly on the doorframe. "Can I come in if I promise not to shed on the floor?" She smiled slightly - "I don't want to interrupt anything important."

"Hi, Mara, come on in. You wouldn't be the first to shed on the floor," Heidi laughed. "Just try not to jump on the furniture. Though from the looks of some of these cushions....I think Jeremy already did."

Mara gave a laugh. "Jeremy, huh? I just had a conversation with him in the dark room. I've got some pictures of the hotel and the surrounding area - he wants to have them for archives." Nodding with a smile to Sissy, Mara stepped into the room.
Curling up in one of the large chairs, Mara tucked her long legs up underneath her. "Are you always tired during the day in the moon's phase? I feel like I could eat and sleep all day."

"Heavens, yes. It's the most wearying thing imaginable. I'm probably not as tired as either of you, since I don't actually transform anymore unless I want to, but I do still feel it." Heidi stifled a yawn. "Though I think we're all better off than Steven. He looked like the living dead."

She had returned the smile and nod to Mara before scanning the shelves again for something that caught her interest. Now, though, she glanced to Heidi. "All night video game marathon?" She stifled a yawn with the back of her hand. Though she was exhausted, sleep was unlikely to come until she had read at least a chapter of something.

Mara struck her head with her palm. "Oh bloody..." She stood up. "Sorry - I've left something in a chemical that can't be left. I may not be able to develop things during the full moon, my brain obviously isn't on. I'll be around later."
She dashed out of the room and made her way down the hall to the dark room.

Mara left so quickly that in some respects, all Heidi had time to do was chuckle. "My," she said, mocking Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, "people come and go so quickly here!"
She finally picked some reading material for herself -- the discarded copy of The Hound of the Baskervilles that Tina had been reading -- and settled down.

Sissy gave a soft laugh at Heidi's reference to The Wizard of Oz and pulled a well-worn copy of Jurassic Park from the shelf before her. She had never been able to follow all of the scientific stuff in it, but she had read it so many times that she could skip over the boring, tedious parts and get straight to the good stuff- namely all of the stuff with the dinosaurs. "Hm, dinos," she muttered with a shrug. "Good enough." With a book now chosen, she glanced around and decided on a spot to sit for the time being. Curling up into her chosen chair, she opened the book and started skimming, looking for the first good part.

Heidi read the same sentence about six times before she realized that she was not really paying attention to the book at all. Her mind was wandering to other places. Tall, soft-spoken, hand-kissing places.
The deuce?
Admittedly, the events of the morning had thrown her very slightly, but she wasn't the sort to dwell on something like this. She was surprised, therefore, by her own musings. Was there any sort of significance to any of it? And if there was, how did she feel about that?
"Sissy?"
"Hm?"
"Can I ask you something?" When the younger wolf nodded, Heidi asked (feeling rather ridiculous even as the words were leaving her mouth), "What do you think of Will?"
"Will?" Sissy asked, tilting her head slightly. This was certainly a new turn. She was usually the one asking such questions of Heidi, but it was definitely interesting. And the thought that the Beta might possibly be interested in Will was an entertaining one. They would certainly be good for each other and, when she thought about it, she would be happy to see them end up together. "He's nice and you can't go wrong with that. He's a gentleman and definitely cute." She gave a shrug. "I think whoever can get a hold of him could be considered extremely lucky." And it was true. Will was without a doubt a good one.
"Hm....yes, I think you're probably right." Heidi's voice was slightly faraway.
She tapped her fingers on the cover of her book for a moment, thinking, before asking, "Just curious, but where did that come from?"
"Hmm? Oh. Well...it's probably nothing. He was just at breakfast, when I was cooking, and...I don't know. I was just thinking about some things he said and did."
"Well, that makes me wish I hadn't skipped breakfast..." Around werewolves, it was no good muttering, so it was said in a normal voice. "Would it be too nosy to ask what those things were?"
Heidi couldn't help chuckling. "Well...he's taken to calling me 'Sweet Heidi.' And he helped with the dishes."
The way Sissy's eyes lit up at that news spoke volumes. "Really? That's great!" She caught herself and looked embarrassed at her enthusiasm. "I mean... That's... nice."
In spite of herself, Heidi laughed. "The way the Alphas were looking at me just makes me wonder if there was something to it I wasn't seeing. That's all."
"Well, they'd certainly know better than I would. Still though, even I think there might be something there. You two really would be good for each other and you definitely deserve someone as nice as Will."
At that, Heidi smiled. "Thanks, Sis. That made my day."
(Done with Sissy.)

Sissy gave a smile and a little shrug. "I was just telling the truth, but I'm glad I could help."

Heidi smiled, and turned back to her book. She could at least pretend to read...even if it wasn't really happening. Her concentration wasn't there. It was a little unsettling, actually, since normally she was so focused and driven.
When in doubt, blame the moon. So she did....it was all the moon, playing tricks on her, making her think about things that really probably weren't happening anyway. After all, if this were even remotely true, wouldn't he have said something by now? Will's a fighter. It's not as if he lacks courage.
Still, she had to admit that the fantasy was a nice one.
