It was quite likely that Jeremy hadn’t even noticed the coming and going of anyone, but such was the behavior of Jeremiah Starke. Most likely, any others present wouldn’t have paid much mind to his little fire song and dance because well, that’s Jeremy for you, what else are you gonna do? At some point, his pyro urge was satisfied and the dance slowed to a rhythmic hopping in place and finally to a standstill. Well that was fun.
And now maybe it was time to go back in. Picking up the trash can and once again pocketing the lighter, Jeremy began whistling some random tune as he headed back inside. It may or may not have been the muppets theme song.

POST TIMESKIP
With a vigorous, enthusiastic laugh, Kai spun low, coming into an almost feline but still predatory and even playful crouch, hands down, fingers splayed and balancing in their spread, one leg out to the side, boot angled down against the asphalt beneath her on the roof that made up the very apex of The Hyperion. The warm air danced and teased over her partially bare back, her black strap-top slightly dampened with sweat, evidence of activity that was driving her wolf into a lively frenzy within.
“That the best you got for me, Lancione?” She cocked her head, strands of dark hair whispering across her pale olive features and clinging to slightly damp temples and cheeks as she smiled, showing a hint of wolf in her eyes. The male who shared one side of the rooftop with her, their improvised sparring field, was just as invested and passionate in their ‘fight’, she knew. She could see it in his eyes, in the tightening of obvious muscles down his biceps and across his chest and back, and in his very posture, hunter and combatant to the core.
Kai’s goad was clear as she allowed her canines to extend subtly, the animal still practically glowing in her gaze. “You promised me a challenge.”

"Are you sayin' I'm goin' easy on you, Kiki?" Noah couldn't help but chuckle slightly as he bounced on the balls of his feet, looking across and down towards the female. As her eyes shone their wolfen colouring and his responded in kind as he raked his teeth over his lower lip, loosely balled fists bobbing, relaxed in front of his chest whilst he paused to consider her words.
Though the front of the grey, sleeveless shirt he wore was dampened with sweat, a dark 'V' running down the centre, over his sternum and mirrored down his spine, of course she was right, he was going 'easy' on her in a manner of speaking. For one reason or another he just couldn't let himself all out spar against her the way he did with the others, with Keegan or Dylan or Puck. She was different. She was Kiki. The one person in the world he had sworn to protect unconditionally, with his life if necessary and even her, even sparring on the roof of their home the safety was on. Bruises and scrapes would heal in no time, for both of them, but if he could, he always tried to save her pain of any kind.
It was a conflict.
Mainly because at the same time he wanted her to be able to protect herself; Kai could protect herself, of course, she was a fighter and he was proud of her in the least condescending way possible for that accomplishment. Still, he was guilty to, because the very fact that she needed to protect herself was down to him. In true Noah Lancione fashion though he covered; "You wound me."

Kai, of course, understood why the kid gloves went on whenever they sparred; she had lived with his protection of her for years, and honestly, wasn’t sure she ever wanted it to stop. It was a way of life for them, back to back defending one another, caring so much and obviously so about one another, nigh on inseparable and devoted to the end. Where he thought he had turned her life and her world upside down, she stood firm in her belief that he had given her life, and restored her world. He had given her something to live for, regardless of just how accidentally his siring her had been. He was her sire, the one she knew she could never live without. The idea alone was painful, like a needle-sharp blade piercing into her chest, and quickly, the thoughts were banished.
“I try my best,” she replied with a mischievous rumble of a growl in her voice, watching him bob and sway on the spot for a few tense, energetic seconds before she was a flurry of feral motion, moving with preternatural, wolf-afforded speed and agility and even grace, her swings and spinning kicks carrying a sort of deadly elegance that she had learned over her extended lifetime, twisting others’ techniques to fit her needs.
The warm air, the elements of the great outdoors, as humid and close as they really were, felt so refreshing and even electrifying over her bare arms and upper chest and back, across her collarbone and shoulder blades, and even as wisps of dark hair clung across her face, sticking to her damp neck, she couldn’t help but want to laugh, or howl, or even combine the two, and encourage Noah to join her. She felt so alive, and as she and Noah continued to face off, blocking and parrying, she reminded herself, as she had countless times before, that she wouldn’t change a single thing. This was her life, and it was so much more than she could ever have hoped for.

Crouching agilely at the edge of the roof, Annelise looked out over the portion of the city she was facing, her back to the ‘hole’ down the center of the pack home. The blonde fighter was simply looking- not searching for or looking at anything in particular. Simply looking and enjoying the view that her perch offered her of the city they called home. Having been training as much as she had that day, she felt extremely good and not because she had been coming out on top. Even when she was having an off day and ended up on the floor, training very rarely failed to make her feel amazingly good. There was something about it- other than the temporary adrenaline rush it offered- that almost consistently made her feel like she was on top of the world.
At her companion’s words, she stood and pivoted gracefully stepping off the edge and back onto the roof itself, offering a teasing grin of her own as a lock of hair that had escaped her ponytail tumbled over her right eye, causing her to toss her head in order to get it out of the way. “You haven’t had enough of training for the day?”
Annelise knew all too well what learning the hard way felt like- she had been through it herself, after all, though it had been a good while ago- and while the aches were a good thing, she also knew that after lessons, nothing felt quite as good as a good meal, a hot bath and a long nap. Even so, she admired Liluye’s persistence. She knew what she wanted and she was trying to get herself to the point where she could get it. There were no doubts in her mind that Liluye would make a wonderful addition to the pack’s fighters when she was ready.

Perhaps it would always be a source of unspoken conflict between them. Noah could never see himself getting over his guilt for what he had done as accidental as it might have been, it had more or less been sheer dumb luck and really when he thought about it he couldn't see himself without Kai, didn't know where or who or what he would be without her. Sometimes it plain hurt his brain to think about it and in times like that he simply liked to concentrate on protecting her and keeping her safe and happy, only when those two main criteria were fulfilled to his satisfaction could he be happy too.
"I know," he grumbled, though there was no real annoyance in his voice, teasing one another was just what they did, "that's sort of the issue." In truth he loved sparring with Kai, even if it was with the kid gloves on, because that way he could assure himself by watching her accurate, powerful and inherently graceful actions and know that she really could defend herself if - god forbid it would ever be the case - she were ever in a situation where he couldn't protect her, couldn't place himself in the way of any danger that should present itself. In a small way it sated his wolf and allowed him to relax.
As a sudden flurry of mixed kicks and punches flew his way Noah snapped form his reverie, blocking and dodging, lighter on his feet than he ought to be. After a moment her laughed, "Jesus, where's all this energy comin' from?" he semi gasped, darting a pace or two back from her, rolling his shoulders.

Just as they had on many other things, they would have to agree to disagree when it came to their past and how their respective histories wove together and united at that one, pivotal moment where everything had changed for the both of them, irreversibly; Noah had lost his pack and Kai had lost her mortality, something she had never missed, not truly. It had shocked her, at first, the notion that she would live so much longer than any human ever had, but it was a gift she had come to welcome, cherish even. True, it wasn’t a topic she and Noah discussed, given the gravity of it, especially for the male. She knew he beat himself up for it, and she knew she would never change his mind, so she respected his stand on the topic and didn’t try.
Kai, when they sparred, told herself that it could always be worse. While Noah never went ‘all the way’ like Bianca or Amber did when she trained with the other females, or even like some of the other males, he at least didn’t deny her the interaction and practise; she was, in truth, always worried about the possibility, that one day he would turn to her and say ‘no’, that he wouldn’t train with her anymore, if only because he wanted to protect her. But she reminded herself constantly that he had respected her choice to become a fighter alongside him and had never once tried to talk her out of it. Noah protected her, but didn’t shield her from everything, and she loved him more for that than she could ever truly express.
Smiling openly with a laugh, she caught her tongue briefly between her teeth, a visible action that made her look mischievous, perhaps even downright devious as she bobbed lightly on the balls of her feet, wisps of dark hair catching across her face as she said to him in return, “That would be telling, my friend.” She laughed again, her eyes teasing at the wolf and she shifted her stance a fraction. An invitation. Kai had just been on the offensive and he had held her off. Now it was her turn to show her worth by holding her own against his attack.

In truth, Noah hated the thought of Kai being unable to defend herself for a myriad of reason, not least the aforementioned possibility of him not being around when she might need to do just that. It was it so unlike her, everything that she was, proud and strong, she deserved to be a fighter after everything she had put into training and fighting over the years, it felt so natural to the male wolf to have his best friend by his side when they were on patrol. Perhaps part of the reason that the kid gloves never came off in sparring was because he knew that others in their ranks like Puck and 'Rina would always spar full out, it was in their nature. But Noah would never outright refuse to train with Kai. He valued it too much, not only getting to spend the time with her, but assuring himself that she was fighting fit. Even if he did such a thing silently, knowing full well she might just take a chunk right out of him if he were to do it aloud.
Of course, there was the fun factor too. Sparring with Kai was always entertaining.
Noah laughed freely at her answer, at the expression on her face and gave a loose shrug in a moment of stillness, "Whatever happened to no secrets between friends, uh?" Seeing that she had left an opening for him to go on the offensive, the male fighter flashed her a mischievous grin to match the one she wore and moved forwards to fill it, driving forwards as Kai blocked and dodged his attacks.

Annelise was no stranger to pushing herself- when she had been training to become a fighter, she had done the exact same thing. She would force herself to keep going until she finally had to drag herself off to collapse somewhere. Adam would come in to check on her not long after and never failed to pour a glass of water over her head and tell her that she was being crazy. The first several times she had slugged him- hard- for that, but afterwards, she had started to look forward to it, only giving a half-hearted swipe at it. Of course, then there was the time that she had had a glass of water waiting as a surprise... There had been two very drenched wolves after that, but it had been fun.
Annelise gave a soft snort when the memory of the look on Adam's face when she had tossed her own glass of water came to mind. For a few brief moments he had just stood there, looking like she had kicked his puppy. Afterwards, there had been the water fight, but his face had been priceless considering the situation and the fact that he had gotten in the habit of pouring water over her head. He hadn't looked at all bad wet, either...
Pulling herself away from her memories, smiling softly at them rather than becoming upset, she looked to Liluye. "We'll practice some more tomorrow if you're up for it. It doesn't do any good to push yourself too hard. You did a great job today- you're making a lot of progress quickly- but even fighters need to know when to call it quits and take some time to relax."

Kai remembered with startling clarity how Noah had looked following her close call with the hunter and his hound, how it had terrified him. She had vowed to herself there and then that it would never happen again, that she would never put her dearest friend through anything like that again. From that moment on she had been excessively careful, she had weighed all the risks against any potential benefits, and after they had been accepted into the pack, she had worked her way towards becoming what she was now. A fighter, a pack guardian and loyal defender of not only their territory but each and every wolf who lived in The Hyperion, whether it be Noah, youngsters like Matthew and Landon, or the leaders; Cole and Dia and the Betas. It was not only her job, but her passion in life. Taking up her bow with her title burning in her heart and mind, it made her feel not only useful, but alive. Truly alive, and as if she could make some difference in the world; their world. It was more important to her than anything else under the male across from her now.
Even though Noah never went all the way when sparring with her, as he might with Keegan or Will or Tomas, she valued the time spent with him in such a capacity for exactly the same reasons, albeit unknown to her, that he treasured the practises himself. They reassured her, showed her his strength, and that comforted her. She knew he could protect himself, but she liked to see that certainty, even if she had no real intention of harming him, not like any threats in the outside world.
Kai only had time to grin mischievously once again before Noah was coming at her, and she laughed with a growl spilling through the underbelly of the sound as she threw herself into a swift, readying defensive stance, and then immediately hurtled herself into the moves that were so powerfully ground into her memory and instincts after years of training and striving to better herself, and as she ducked and blocked and spun out of the way of his swings and strikes, she revelled in the way her heart truly hammered against her chest.

Continued from: Jessica’s Bedroom
The air felt cooler up on the roof than she imagined it would be in the courtyard, the gentle breeze more evident now that there wasn’t very many buildings in the way. She looked around as she stepped away from the door that led back into the inside, noting that almost everyone up here was a fighter or at the very least someone with fighting intentions. There was no Kate however and her wolf whined softly in disappointment at that fact, a feeling that was warring with the sudden worry that she was intruding.
For all her years, Jess had never become a fighter, had never even tried. There had been no need, not with the warm knowledge that there was people like Kate to look after her, not when they were under the protection of Cole but most importantly of all, there had been no desire. No skill either, if she was being honest with herself and Jess didn’t see the point in trying to hide it. Her dream like personality did not sit well with the traits needed to become a help to the pack in that way and so she was content to remain as she was, member through and through.
It didn’t stop the way her eyes widened slightly in admiration as she caught sight of Noah and Kai sparring or the respectful glance she had sent the other two moments before. Fighters were worthy of all and any respect that could be given.

When she came out onto the roof, Noah gave Jessica a brief smile of acknowledgement before his concentration was all back on the spar with Kai, it really wouldn't pay to let his attention wander with her around, she'd take him down faster than he could drink one of those mini whiskey bottle, pretending to be a giant. Typically she managed to exploit his lapse in concentration; Noah made a rather unmanly sound in the base of his throat, lost his footing thanks to Kai's movement and had to double step to get his balance back with a grunt, "See, it's on now," he said, though he was grinning the whole time as he dodged her and came around for a side on attack, or as much of one as he could manage with her defensive motions blocking him every step and swing of the way.
Kai was good. Great actually, and as usual he felt a strange mix of pride, affection and relief swell through him, it would be cocky to him that if she could defend herself against him then she could defend against anyone, but it reassured him none the less. He growled lightly too, the sound coming through a chuckle as she nearly winded him with a series of well timed, smooth motions. Sparring for any fighter was fun, at least Noah liked to think that, because if it wasn't fun on some level there had to be something wrong, surely. Maybe he had just a slightly warped view of it all, or maybe he was just lucky to have his best friend as a sparring partner, making it fun by default.

Annelise gave a stretch and shook her head in response to Liluye’s question after giving a little smirk to the ‘almost always’ part. “Nah. No plans. Might do a quick sweep of the Hyperion and then go take a bath. Or see who I can find to bother.” She gave another little smirk. “I’ll figure it out after the sweep.”
Annelise knew perfectly well that she didn’t need to do anything like a patrol of the hotel- there were better, stronger fighters who would likely be doing that- but it was something that she liked to do sometimes and tonight was proving to be one of those nights. She wouldn’t check every nook and cranny or anything like that- just a quick sweep, make sure no one was getting into anything they shouldn’t be.

Like Noah, whom she was arguably more in-tune with than anyone else, Kai had given Jess a friendly smile to greet and welcome her before she threw herself back into the spar between herself and her closest friend. If only because she’d been in a position to acknowledge Jess first, and the fact that she’d been so fired up with energy and ‘in the zone’, perhaps, she’d managed to catch Noah off guard, something that almost, almost made her laugh when he stumbled, but in the back of her mind she’d started at his falter, almost as if she feared she’d done him harm. His quick recovery and retaliation reassured her, and she smiled slyly, her eyes flickering brightly as she blocked and deflected his motions, ducking or weaving back out of his reach.
“On?” she queried. “‘Til the break of dawn?”
Easily tuning out the sound of Annelise and Liluye’s conversation thanks to experience and discipline, she grinned and studied Noah’s actions during a brief respite and then they were in motion again, neither one specifically on the offence or defence, both going for broke, and even when one of his blows glanced off her hip, she couldn’t help but laugh, exhilarated by the open space, and the fresh air and freedom of it all, as well as the close proximity with the wolf she trusted above any other in the world. She might be bruised later, a little battered, but she felt full to the brim with energy, and in no mood to stop any time soon.

On her way up to the roof, she had stopped off again at her room to get a pale beige jacket, leather, as was perhaps a fighter tradition more than any kind of cliché, the material being tough and durable, not unlike her dark jeans. It wasn’t a cold evening, far from it, coming up on the end of August and all, and though she wouldn’t strictly need the jacket, she felt better for wearing it; more prepared, businesslike, the tone more fitting for the night ahead. Her boots hadn’t been changed, Kennedy never the one to wear heels that were in any way impractical for any outing that might just come up. Like tonight.
Pushing her way out onto the roof, her hair still hanging free, tousled and somehow still-neat mane flowing around her neck and cheeks with the faint breeze that blew up around the top of the hotel, she felt her eyes adjust easily and quickly, seeing not just one fighter, as she had hoped, but three, and in addition, a fighter-in-training. The wolf inside of the senior fighter sat up straight, ears perked, attentive and ready. Nodding to Annelise and Liluye over at the edge, she spoke to the four of them as a group, rather than singling any one of them out over the others.
“Cole and Dia are heading over to Marion’s; something’s up, and a group of us are going along. I need a few volunteers.” It sounded like such a casual offer, she knew, but there was a professionalism to her tone that had taken her years to ‘perfect’. She looked from Kai and Noah, who had paused in their spar, breathing with visibly increased fervour, to the two females perched to the side, and shifted her grip subtly on the roof’s door handle. She didn’t need all of them, but it was in their nature to protect their Alphas, and really, the more, the better.
