The glances were by no means missed, though it did take them longer to become anything that bugged her than usual. He'd worried her, and she didn't like being worried. Perhaps it was the moon that made her that extra bit paranoid for him, or perhaps it was the fact they were going to have a child, some long latent familial instinct finally kicking in now that it was fully needed.
And she just might have heard the housewife comment, but she'd let it slide for now. Still, the comment was met with a disbelievingly arched eyebrow as she looked at her mate. "Yeah, you could do that…"

Feeling playful, he tossed the sweater her way, saying conversationally as he did so, "I could just throw this one away then?" He grinned, even as she managed to catch the clothing, and he met her glare with the devious expression. He shrugged his shoulders, ignoring the slight twinge from his left arm as he did so, moving to the closet casually, and pulling it open.
All the while, he was bracing himself for the sweater hitting him in the head if and when she threw it back at him. Really, it wasn't a matter of if... it was just a matter of when. Knowing Dia, she would wait until she knew she could catch him at a disadvantage, if only to have the 'last word'. It amused him to no end, if only because he was always expecting it, and she knew that as well as he did.

Naturally, Dia caught the sweater, suppressing the slightly teasing smirk that wanted to appear on her lips. For the moment she didn't respond, simply tossed the sweater in its balled up state from one hand to the other, waiting until Cole turned back around to send it sailing in the direction of his face. "You can even throw it away yourself," she said, unable to keep herself from smiling.
Not to say that Dia was never accommodating or placating with her mate, she really was more often than not. But she knew good and well when he was simply playing and poking fun. With the way Cole acted sometimes, you would swear he was still a pup. And Dia by no means minded that; she enjoyed their little traded quips and verbal sparring of sorts. It was simply part of the way they interacted, a show of affection, really.

He'd turned to say something else to her, met by the sweater hitting him in the face, causing him to laugh. It dropped into his waiting hands, and he mock-glared at her. "That was mean," he 'growled', and glanced down at the object in his grasp. "Eh, I'll throw it away later," he mumbled with another shrug, tossing it onto the dresser. He really would deal with it as well; if he just left it lying around, then the scent of blood would become more than irritating for the both of them - they both knew the smell, after so long knowing each other and the inevitability of his being wounded once in a while, but for any werewolf, the strong scent of any blood didn't exactly act as a relaxant. Especially during the full moon.
"So," he began, pulling another shirt from the closet, and casually swinging the door shut as he walked away from it, "find anything remarkable on your travels?" He was referring, of course, to her walks around the hotel - she and Heidi both took it upon themselves to 'patrol' when the sun set, to make sure nothing needed attending. Cole usually oversaw operations in the basement, and Steven... well, the Beta male often hid out in his room. And the Alpha male hadn't missed the occasional strange noise from behind the closed door, either; he just didn't really want to ask...

"No being 'mean' would have been letting you think I actually might fix it for you," she said with an almost mocking smirk. Since yeah, they both knew that so was not going to happen. And there wasn't a real doubt in her mind that Cole would get rid of the sweater soon enough. Besides the possibility for the smell to bother both of them, it'd especially bother her to be smelling the blood of her mate so obvious on something. Even now the somewhat lingering scent made her inner wolf nearly howl with worry, regardless of the fact that Cole was with her and very much ok. It was reflexive and while she could calm herself more than sufficiently, the impulse was still there.
"Besides Steven keeping holed up and Jeremy running around like he usually does, nothing." Though thankfully for the historian, he hadn't been doing anything so potentially destructive as jumping on chairs when Dia had seen him. Just like Cole, she did wonder what the male Beta got up to during the full moon. It was obvious he didn't need to sequester himself away because of lack of control over his inner wolf. But just as with Heidi, Dia would respect the obvious wishes of the Beta, as it seemed to be nothing more than a quirk of some sort as opposed to anything that might endanger safety. After her mention of Jeremy Dia shook her head and laughed dryly, perching herself on the edge of the bed. "You know there are days when I think there is something really wrong with that kid…" Again, nothing the seemed overly detrimental to the pack, just perhaps a point or two that seemed 'off'.

"With Jeremy?" Cole repeated, wandering closer to the end of the bed, where she stood, and narrowing his eyes as he thought about it. He couldn't help but smile. "Yeah, okay, I think you might be right about that, but he does his job, and he's nice enough. At least he doesn't run around and try to drive everyone else insane..." Cole paused. "Well... not intentionally, anyway."
Chuckling, he considered the shirt in his hands, and inhaled slowly; relaxed. Turning his eyes to meet Dia's again, he studied her face. "So... pack aside," he began, in the back of his mind knowing that he could never say 'pack aside' and really mean it; the pack would always be on his thoughts in one form another, as they were with any Alpha. "What would you like to do tonight?" he inquired, turning the shirt slowly over and over in his hands as he waited for her to think on the question... or simply answer, if she had already decided on something before even finding him.

The Next Morning…
Waking up early on the days of the full moon was not all that unusual for Cole. It was just past dawn, and his internal clock had roused him from sleep. Shifting slightly, he saw Dia just in front of him, his arm wrapped over her as she slept peacefully. Sitting up a little, he kissed her temple lightly, and then crawled gently out of the bed, having no doubt that she could already tell he was awake and on the go. Even if she didn’t sit up and prove her wakefulness.
Dressing quietly, he glanced one more time to Dia, before heading for the door, and subsequently for the stairs that would lead to the lobby.

Dia had indeed been awake when Cole had gotten up not too long ago. And even if she hadn't been, his departure still would have registered with her. She could feel the coming and going of her mate even if her senses weren't on full alert. AS he kissed her temple the corner of her mouth quirked ever so slightly towards a smile.
As Cole departed, she had opted to stay in bed a bit longer, several different thoughts lingering in consideration in her mind, including her own recent 'news' of a sort, as well as the slight scuffled that had gone on in the basement the night before. But no matter what she was pondering, sleeping in was a luxury afforded only to others amongst the pack who didn't have certain responsiblities, especially during the full moon. That's not to say it probably would have even been mentioned if she had, but Dia's own sense of duty simply wouldn't allow her to.
Slipping out of bed, she moved to get dressed before heading downstairs, the lingering scent left by her not too long departed mate giving her a slight sense of comfort and ease.

Cole had never been able to figure out why he was so comfortable sleeping on his stomach. It wasn’t really something he had tried to analyse and decrypt over the years; it just… was. It was a mere quirk, and did nobody any harm, and if she so chose, it provided his mate with a kind of secondary ‘pillow’ of sorts, if the desire struck her. He never minded.
After verbally sparring with Steven on the roof for almost a whole hour the previous night, he had done his rounds again, checked in with the ‘watchers’ in the basement, and then headed to his room, to find Dia there. They had shared companionable silence, broken only by the odd tease or comment about one thing or another, and then, sometime during that ritual, they had drifted off to sleep, lying together comfortably.
Now though, the sun had broken over the horizon, edging its way eagerly skyward, and the internal alarm clock seemed to be ringing. Cole sometimes hated the stupid thing; it had developed after he had taken on the role of Beta, and had only intensified after his rise to Alpha, and now, there was no shaking it. Lie-ins just didn’t exist in his world anymore, and as he lay there, staring with a kind of resigned, fading weariness at the wall, he wished not for the first time in recent weeks that he could just go back to sleep, if only for another hour. The bed was warm, and the company was far from disagreeable.
His right arm was under his pillows to support them as they cushioned his head, and his left was to the other side of the pillows, on the mattress, not moving. His green-hazel eyes just watched a nondescript point on the wall, and he seemed vacant, but in truth, he was debating turning over, curious as to whether Dia was awake yet.
Cole suspected he wouldn’t have to wait long to find out, either way.

No doubt there were nights when that ‘secondary pillow’ had been most appreciated. Regardless of the fact that when Cole was next to her she could sense him there, there were still times when the extra assurance of some physical contact was desired. Even if it were only something as small as being able to reach out and brush her fingers across his arm.
For Dia, the previous night had been spent mostly conversing with various members of the pack as she kept her own eye on things, making note of who was where and if they seemed all right. Not that she didn’t trust the majority of the pack’s ability to take care of themselves but it was the full moon so that brought up an entire slew of factors into things. It wasn’t a habit that could be blamed entirely on the full moon, since she did it pretty much all other times as well. Perhaps it was very mother henish of her, but it gave her an extra sense of comfort as to the well being of the pack.
In many ways her own internal clock seemed to be attuned to that of her mate’s. So more often than not, when Cole awoke she did as well. If he had trouble resting, so did she. Eyes cracking open, Dia’s gaze turned towards her mate and she scooted across the bed, draping an arm over his side as she settled closer to him. “You better not be thinking about leaving yet.” Her words were soft in case Cole was farther from wakefulness than she thought, but still held a slight hint of teasing that so often came out when she was with her mate.

If Dia was accused of being mother-henish, then Cole was likely called the male equivalent behind his back, but it wasn’t as if he particularly minded, or cared. It was a trait very much expected of any Alpha worth their salt, and not to blow their own horns, but Cole was very much of the opinion that he and Dia had earned their titles and roles in the pack they had both been born into; it was their family, and so, they were entitled to worry and fret as they did.
Cole’s smile was lazy but affectionate as Dia nestled closer to him, her voice travelling to the ear that wasn’t pressed into the pillow. He chuckled softly, barely audible, and turned his head enough to be able to see her looking at him. He hesitated a moment for effect, and then said lethargically, “No… quite the opposite. Steven can handle any disasters… I can’t be bothered.” His smirk returned, boyish and languid.
Right then, staying in bed with Dia was much more appealing than dealing with whatever might be going on beyond the door opposite the bed.

They’d been through enough to earn it, hadn’t they? And enough to make them as attentive as they were. After all, the pack hadn’t thrived and grown for no reason over the centuries.
Dia laughed softly, the sound lessened even more as her cheek pressed against Cole’s back before shifting again to accommodate room for him to move as he wanted. “If there was a disaster, we’d probably know about it by now.” Whether it would have been someone alerting them or the more likely scenario of the pair simply knowing something was wrong and being prompted to investigate themselves. Having been stable for so long the pack itself had a vibe of sorts normally, and any changes or interruptions to it were very much detectable. “I have a feeling he’ll be all right without us for a while longer.”

When she gave him the room to move, he rolled over carefully onto his back, and as always, enjoyed the view when he was finished, now able to look up at his mate with a warm, loving smile as she ‘loomed’ over him somewhat. With her dark hair in a gentle state of disarray, she looked so natural, and for a moment, Cole forgot about everything beyond their bedroom; he just shut it all away as he admired her from where he lay.
“I think I heard someone stomping around a while ago… sounded like Kate.” Cole chuckled, unconcerned. If the somewhat ‘vain’ fighter had really needed attention, Cole would have simply known, as would his mate, and they would have emerged to deal with the situation before it could escalate. But as Dia had said, they would know by now if something was truly amiss, and Cole actually felt rather calm for a change, and as such, wanted to take advantage.
“I’m sure he’ll manage,” he agreed, reaching up to brush a few loose curls from the soft curve of her cheek.

It was times like this that made it so easy to let herself get lost in her mate and forget about all the trappings and complexities of everything else. These little moments were sometimes few and far between, but perhaps that only increased the intensity of them. No doubt it would be fleeting, as always, but such was their life, and the little moments of peace were taken when they came. Cole’s gentle touch against her cheek served as a tangible reminder she could be content forever just lying here with him. It was fairly certain that soon enough either their own senses of duty or some pressing matter would pull them out of the moment. Certainly there would be more stomping once Kate caught up with his intended targets. But for now Dia simply nodded in agreement and rested her head against Cole’ chest.
Of course, there was also the matter that she had something of great import to tell him, and her mind was toying with the idea whether or not now would be the right time. Drawing in a soft, content breath, she closed her eyes for a few seconds. “I love you.” They were three little words that always went without saying by this point in their lives, but she felt the need to say them right now for some reason.

Peace for an Alpha in a pack so large was a rare thing, and like his mate, he would take those moments when and where he could; take them in both hands and cherish them for as long as he could, even if it were only as he lay in bed with the most important person in the world to him. He felt no shame in admitting such a thing, even with his responsibilities to the pack… and he knew no one could expect anything less of him. Those who truly knew Cole, or even simply saw him with Dia, understood the bond and the devotion. He didn’t ask for much from the family that he protected and guided, just that they give him these moments, and respect his love for her.
Shifting his head against the pillows in order to do so, he met her gaze with his own, his subtle smile fading, but not negatively, at her soft words. His fingers stroked gently through her dark hair, and he felt a swell of contentment in his chest as he replied in kind, “I love you too.” Something so simple could still mean so much to wolves as old as the pair as they lay in their bed together, and Cole suddenly wanted the day to just pause, so he wouldn’t have to be responsible for or supportive to anyone else but Dia, no matter how selfish that might be viewed.
