Mara laughed. "No worries. Aussies tend to shorten things anyway. If they could shorten Mara I'm sure they would. Nice to meet you, Sissy. And Cassidy too." Mara looked around. "Nice room - I will need to make mine my own - maybe put up some of my photographs. For now I'm thinking about doing some training - I haven't been able to practice much lately."
She moved back to the door. "Thanks for letting me clear that up - I appreciate it alot. I, uh - hope I don't cause any problems next week."

"I should have been the one to clear it up and I'm sorry that I didn't. I do appreciate the chance to start over, though, and I look forward to getting to know you a bit. As for the full moon, don't worry about it too much. We all know what it's like to lose control to it, even those of us who were born what we are. It's no easy task to take control, but the pack is here to help and if you need anything, any of us will be glad to help. And if we can't, then we can always point you to someone who can."

Besides, there's always the basement.
Cassidy finally swallowed, and nodded her head. "Don't mention it, like Sissy said. You kinda get used to that sort of thing around here... I mean, the full moon playing with emotions, and stuff. It's no biggie." She smiled her best friendly smile, and tucked her hair behind her ear, wondering if there were any streaks in it after she'd been a bit startled a moment ago.
"And yeah... if you need anything, everyone's really nice, in their own way." She laughed softly. "Don't worry about asking anyone about whatever you need."

Mara grinned. "Thanks. I'll keep that in mind. I'm going to go have a look at the rest of this place now - I'll see you around."
Giving a wave, she stepped back out into the hallway.

Feeling better than she had been, Sissy bounded to her feet and turned to look at her friend. "I think I'm going to head down to the kitchen and get something to drink. You want anything? I'm probably going to head back to my room when I finish in the kitchen so I can get started on a site I'm supposed to be designing, but I'll stop by and drop off anything you want me to grab for you." Her dark moods usually didn't last for too long and once they had passed, she was ready to move on and do what needed to be done. Or, if she didn't have anything that needed to be done, she would do whatever came to mind that seemed like it would be fun.

Her friend smiled, and shook her head. They had more or less managed to devour the bag of treats, and now, she was pretty sure she could pass the rest of the day without having to leave the room... at least for a while.
"Nah, I'm good, thanks." She smiled again, and cleared any crumbs off her covers, depositing them in the waste paper basket near her desk.

"Well, so long as you're sure. Thanks for letting rant and going to talk to Heidi for me earlier. I feel better now that it's all out of my system. I'll talk to you later. You know where to find me if you need anything." With that, she headed out the door and made her way towards the kitchen.

Watching Sissy leave, Cassidy sighed and rolled over onto her back, the wrong way up on her bed, essentially. She stared at the ceiling, musing over the day's events, and those of the last week. She recalled the most recent visit to the library, and the charades game that had ensued; the countless bickering matches with Devon; hanging out with Sissy; meeting Mara; and the subsequent 'confession' of her friend's crush on one human physician, Nate.
Laughing softly to herself, she sighed once more, and rolled over onto her front, grabbing her book from the nightstand. Flicking it open to where her tatty bookmark protruded from the top of the pages, she settled down to read. A few more 'sessions', and it would be ready to go back to the library.

So, lying on her bed and simply reading in silence wasn’t doing anything for her, she decided. It was a little boring… not that the book itself wasn’t exciting, but… well, she’d just hit a rough spot that was making her feel a little more emotional than she cared to get over a novel, and as such, she was quite keen to find something else to do. Something that didn’t include sitting around and sniffling over a fictional character.
And he wasn’t even really in it. Argh, stupid… good author.
Putting the book back on her nightstand with a huff, she stood from her bed, changed her shirt for no real other reason than she felt like it, and headed out of the door.

Cassidy was… rather anxious, to say the least. Mumbling to herself in the otherwise silent space that was her bedroom, she ran a hand through her somewhat dishevelled red hair, dragging it back over her head to tumble messily around her neck and shoulders. Wearing some of her loosest clothing, as she always did during the full moon, she paced back and forth, barefoot, across her floor at the end of her bed. Back and forth, left and right, over and over again.
Her green eyes cast to the window, where she had half-drawn the drapes. Growling in her throat, she could see the bright orb of the moon arching lazily towards the height of the night sky as the sun’s light waned into the horizon, and she stared at it, her pacing drawing to an ominous end.
“Full moon confinement will be going into effect within the hour. Everyone affected by the change, please come to the basement.”
She heard the announcement, but barely reacted. Her eyes blinked once, sharply, and her head inclined very softly to one side. She was too transfixed by the moon, when suddenly, it bubbled into her mind, and she heard a keening howl tear through her head. Grasping at her skull, she growled loudly, the noise filling the room.
I’m too old for this shit. Leave me alone. I don’t want it…
Cursing loudly as the howling reverberated around and around her head, she grabbed a lamp from her desk, tore it from its cable, and heaved it at the far wall. It smashed, even as she screwed her eyes shut, feeling it swell. She only knew one way to release it, but Cassidy was of such an age that even if she did give in to the release, it wouldn’t overcome her. If anything, it would help. Of course, most other wolves of her age had already mastered the change, and fought back the urge, even on the full moon. It was her own fault she wasn’t quite there yet…
Another few years, and maybe I won’t have to do this anymore… she grumbled mentally, giving a low groan of a noise as she reached over her head, and tugged on the neck of her oversized sweater. It came off, dragging her hair around her face, before she dropped her head back, feeling it rise as she allowed it. Her sweatpants had hit the floor before her knees cracked back, and the roots of her red hair bled white, streaking down the lengths before overcoming it completely, from one vivid shade to another. It swarmed over her body as features shifted and changed, and a tail broke from the small of her back, brushing back and forth. As hands and feet shifted to large paws, she lost the stability for bipedal movement, and dropped to all fours, feeling a shudder course down her rippling spine. A release.
The white-haired wolf that was Cassidy Blake stretched fully back and forth, hearing the satisfying pop and crack of muscles and joints, before ice blue eyes opened and focused on the bed. She knew the bed, and it was comforting. Padding out of the heap of baggy clothing, the large wolf climbed easily onto the soft mattress, and curled up in the centre of it. The bushy tail swept around her form, and tickled her nose as her bright eyes watched the door.

Continued from The Hallway
Heidi knocked on the door. "Cassie? Are you in there?" It did, and did not, smell like the girl, which meant one thing, most likely. She'd allowed herself to change, and was sitting in the room in her lupine form. Heidi wasn't overly concerned -- Cassidy was a tough little thing, and could control herself well in the wolf aspect -- but she always liked to make sure she was all right during the moons. She could relate to the younger wolf on certain levels that the others could not.

The wolf raised her blue eyes, ears perking up at the familiar voice. The knock had gotten Cassidy’s attention, but the voice even more so, and it caused a sigh of relief to slip out of her, and disturb the hairs of her tail. Making a low noise in her throat that wasn’t entirely unlike a curious pine, she didn’t move from her space on the bed, far too comforted by the familiarity to want to move. It wasn’t as if she would lose control if she set one paw off the mattress, but it was like a safety blanket, really. In fact, before settling down, she’d circled on the covers several times; a habit for most wolves and even dogs, before they laid down in any space, familiar or otherwise. She’d made a little ‘ditch’ for herself, to nuzzle down in.
You can come in, she thought in the back of her mind, when the words had no way of coming out of her literally. After all, a wolf lacked the ability to talk in any language that a human could understand. Not that Heidi was human…

Heidi could hear the little whine, and decided to interpret it as an invitation to enter; she'd know quick enough if she'd misunderstood. She couldn't fight a smile when she saw the blue-eyed wolf curled up comfortably in a sort of nest of mattress and blankets. "I'm guessing you're in for the night," she said, walking over to the bed and giving Cassidy's ears a fond scratch. "That looks comfortable. Well, I'll be around, so if you need anything, just...howl, I suppose." She chuckled.

She lifted her lupine head after Heidi removed her hand from Cassidy’s ears — and the scratching had been oddly satisfying; not that she would admit it — looking at the Beta female. She acknowledged the comment and offer with a kind of nod of her fully-wolfen head, and blinked her bright eyes slowly. Her tail brushed lightly over the mattress, softly disturbing the edges of her little ‘nest’.
Cassidy understood the offer, and why Heidi was making it, and she reached out with her nose, giving Heidi’s arm an appreciative nudge as the Beta female stood beside the bed.

Heidi grinned at the nudge, giving the alert ears another scratch. "I'll come back and check on you later," she promised, heading for the door. "I need to make sure all the younger wolves got down to the basement, and that Cole doesn't need me in the watchers' stations."
She gave Cass a wave, then headed back out into the hallway to resume her 'patrol.'
