It really did seem that his family knew him better than he knew himself and they always knew when he needed them be it for a hug or a game. He tried to always be there for them too, he looked for those subtle little shifts in body language and expressions that said that they needed something and while he didn't always know what they needed he tried his best. Rory wanted to help people, if there was something he could do to help then he would do it, if someone was sad then it was his mission to cheer them up, especially if it was one of his siblings. He might not have been the best at picking up on the little things but when it came to those he called family he always noticed those subtle signs that told him something wasn't quite right so that he could try and help put things right. Just like they seemed to always sense when he was feeling out of sorts and went out of their way to help him forget whatever had been getting him down, he could always count on them to cheer him up. It was what family did for each other, they were there for you sometimes before you realised you needed them, to Rory it almost seemed like magic, whatever it was he was thankful for it.
He knew he had the tendency to ramble and go off on random tangents that made little sense to anyone but it was just who he was, he couldn't help it. His family always knew how to follow his train of thought though, sure it took him a while to get his point across but at the end of it they always knew just what he'd been trying to say in his roundabout way. The sound of his sister's laugh only made him smile more, he really did love to hear those he cared about laughing, he was happiest when they were happy. "Of course I did," he replied with more enthusiasm that was necessary, a grin on his face as he looked towards her. "Not this time, we just kept flinging food until everyone was covered, it was so much fun. I'm sorry you missed it," he said with a hint of sadness creeping in to his voice. There had been no rude interruptions of the food fight this time, it had run its course and everyone had been breathless with laughter by the end of it and the fact that his sister had missed it was really the only downside to the whole thing.

Rory was great at it, whether he realised it or not. Cassidy had been shut up in her room so long that his appearance and energetic reminder of the outside world -- even if it was only outside her room, not the big bad city in general -- was just what she needed, and it had come at the perfect time. He had known that without seeing anything physical signs, as well, and that was a true indication that he really knew Cassidy. She was one of those within the pack who was tricky to get to know, she was unpredictable at times and she wasn't a creature of habit outside of her writing, and when it came to that there was no telling when she might shut herself away in her room to get something done. Rory seemed to understand her, and that was one of the -- many -- reasons she adored him so much. Having him in her room made her feel lighter somehow, that little bit more carefree than she would have felt otherwise, and she had noticed over the years that she tended to smile more when he was around.
When it came to the younger wolf's rambles, you just had to track the tangent. That was the key. Cassidy had learned the trick a while ago, and while there were few in the pack who could follow his little verbal sprees better or with more ease than Keegan, she liked to think she did a pretty good job. The very beginning and the very end always connected somehow, even if it was only tenuously, so that was the main thing. Cassidy was sad she had missed the fight, even if she was quietly relieved she hadn't needed to clean all kinds of food out of her head; as temperamental as she might seem at times, she really did love spending time with her pack. "I'll have to make sure to catch the next one then, won't I?" she told him, giving him a confident smile. "We can't have people thinking I'm missing these things on purpose."

He really didn’t think he was that great at it but if he cheered up those around him and made them forget their worries for even a little while then he considered that a win. He liked to think that he understood his siblings enough to know when they needed things. He’d wanted to visit Cassidy for a little while and had held off because he hadn’t been sure the timing was right. Only when he was sure it was the right time had he given in and set off on his mission to see her. It wasn’t always easy to know what Cassidy wanted but Rory liked to think that he knew her well enough to know when she wanted to be left alone and when she would welcome a visit from him. Rory really did like to see his family smile and he liked to think that he helped make them all smile. He really did try his best to make others happy.
There were some in the pack who couldn’t follow his rambles no matter how hard they tried and when he saw their confused looks he knew that they hadn’t followed. Of course there were some who could follow him no matter what he said, those like Keegan and Cassidy. Out of everyone they always seemed to know what he was getting at. Rory hoped that the next time there was a food fight that Cassidy would be able to get involved. "You will, maybe you should start the next one. That way you definitely won’t miss out." He said with a grin. "I don’t think anyone thinks you’re missing things on purpose, at least I hope they don’t." A small frown appeared on his face as he wondered if anyone did think that. "Maybe we should ask people if that’s what they think."

Rory could always make Cassidy feel better. Always. He had a way about him, a knack for lightening the mood and lifting the spirits of others, whether he realised it or not. As far as the redheaded she-wolf was concerned it was a gift, nothing short of a blessing in certain situations when things looked grim and it took a certain something to bring people around again. Rory was that something, that very special something, and Cassidy was so glad to have him in her life. Honestly she couldn't imagine not having him around nowadays, that bubbly enthusiasm and boyish grin, the happy ease with which he laughed and the constant energy that never seemed to let go of his body. Cassidy loved Rory, plain and simple, and he was family, regardless of the lack of blood ties between them. That didn't matter to her, and it hadn't done for a long time now.
"Me, start a food fight?" Cassidy had to laugh at that, settling her weight a little more on the bed, crossing her legs and plucking absently at one of the toes of the socks she was wearing. They were purple, thick and fuzzy. Violet had given them to her for Christmas the previous year. Eyes narrowing and lips pursing into a line that began to turn up at the edges in the very beginnings of a smile, she went on, "Actually, maybe that's the beauty of it. No one would expect me to start anything like that." Not because she couldn't have fun but more because it was a little too silly for her.
