The old wolf ate heartily, feeling his wolf settled as its hunger was slowly sated. The silence in there small kitchen was the comfortable sort, the kind that developed between a pair such as them. A couple that knew each other inside and out; they didn't need words, really. Gareth was content to sit in silence with his mate -- it brought him an odd sense of comfort, almost.
As he finished his own plate, he glanced up, catching Alswytha's gaze and that bare taunting of a smile. He felt his own mouth twitch upwards, barely, and set down his mug when he inquired, "Still hungry, love?"

“Hmm?” Though her eyes had been focused on his noble features, her mind had begun to wander, and his query had simply stirred her from her daydreaming, for lack of a better term. The soft glazed quality to her eyes dissipated, returning her aware appearance, and she smiled subtly. “No, thank you.”
Gareth was the one and only person she would ever thank; that was no secret, and would no doubt be surprising even then to anyone who had known her in the past. Towards the end of her reign alongside Gareth, before Stanton and his bitch had taken their leadership from them, she had been distant and overly-regal, uncaring about anyone but herself and her mate, but even then, she hadn’t let anyone hear her say thank you, even to Gareth.

Alswytha received a brief kiss on the cheek when he stood, collecting both their plates to rinse them in the sink. "We could scout more of the city now," he suggested. "Or wait 'til sundown. It is up to you, my dear."
He turned to watch his mate from his spot by the sink. Despite how they had 'fallen', she still retained her regal attitude, the pride that came from someone who was meant to lead. Even packless, his mate was a commanding presence. He doubted that would ever change.

At the promise of scouting once again, Alswytha perked up, her smile at the kiss vanishing to be replaced with a kind of controlled anxiety and anticipation, her eyes seeking him across the kitchen, meeting the wolf-flecked depths and seeing the offer well and truly shining there. It wasn’t as if Gareth would lie to her; she doubted he had it in him, but still, she liked to be sure of things before allowing herself to get truly worked up.
Rising from her chair, she moved closer to him, smiling, and granted him with a deep, appreciative kiss. When she drew back, letting her lips linger against his for a few moments, she said in a low, passionate kind of voice, “I would like that very much, Gareth.”

"Well, then that settles it."
Gareth's voice was a low rumble, pleased, yet somehow menacing all at one. There was no reason for them to stick to the cover of nightfall, for they had nothing to hide. Better to get a sense of the city now so they would be at ease when they went hunting later on.
"Give me a moment, hmm?" he murmured as he pulled away from his mate and returned to the bedroom. He still needed a quick shower, not to mention wandering the streets of L.A. sans shirt might raise a few eyebrows...not that Gareth particularly cared.

Alswytha knew she was quite possibly the only one to ever meet Gareth and hear those low rumblings and not be intimidated by them. She had no need to be afraid of her mate, lacked the capacity in fact, and that suited her just fine. In a way, she had him eating out of the palm of her hand, as the saying went, and that satisfied her greatly, that power.
Padding after him into the bathroom, she leaned gracefully in the doorway, watching him with a sly little smile, as she said, perhaps unnecessarily, “Can I join you?” She knew his morning routine, and in fact, quite often did join him in the shower, but it was still fun to play that little game, as old as it might be.

Gareth almost laughed as he shucked his clothing, a rumble that echoed in the enclosed space. "Join me, love?" he reapeated as he went about setting the water to the proper tempurature. "Perhaps. But keep in mind that we don't want to waste the day away."
His voice was fairly deadpan, but Alswytha would know he was teasing. Or as close to teasing as he could come. She wouldn't need to look very far into it to see that of course he would enjoy her company. No matter how much it would delay their plans; besides, it wasn't necessarily urgent that they get out.

Alswytha’s laugh was low and throaty as she padded lightly through the doorway and into the bathroom. It held the faint traces of Gareth’s musky scent and her own, more feminine one, but also the manmade scents of lavender and cologne and vanilla. They teased at her senses as she approached, removing her clothing with a grace that was ages old, and as she joined him in front of the shower, she smiled up at him with a sly sort of affection.
“There’s plenty of the day left yet,” she reminded him, leaning up to kiss him briefly. Besides, she knew he couldn’t say no to her, which was just another weapon in her arsenal. She was spoilt rotten, worse than rotten, and she loved it.

He growled against her; a brief, bass rumble. Of course, Alswytha had a point, and if she wanted to indulge a little before the excursion, who was he to stop her? Gareth knew he'd played a part in the way his mate had turned out. He had spoiled her constantly -- he still did. Perhaps he was only setting himself up for trouble in the future but for the moment he could see no trouble on the horizon.
So Gareth offered his mate a slight smile, a brief upward twitch of his lips, before he bowed his head to kiss her shoulder lightly. "Right as usual, my dear," he murmured against her soft skin. "If you'd rather take some time before we rush off, that's fine, as well."

Alswytha, in many ways, was all about indulgence; she indulged herself all too often, usually whenever the opportunity came up, and in a variety of ways at that. Physically, mentally; she was the creative sort who could find something good or satisfying in most situations, so long as there was some fun or carnage to be had. As one of the oldest wolves in the city, without a doubt, she was confident in her ability to find some kind of figurative silver lining to almost any situation they may or may find themselves in. One of the many perks of being powerful…
Giving his neck a soft, almost overly-tender nuzzle with her cheek when his lips pressed to her shoulder, Alswytha’s eyes closed, the female drawing in a deep breath to drink in his strong, musky scent. “Patience is a virtue,” she murmured in return, before turning to graze her teeth teasingly against his defined jaw. Oh yes, there was still time to indulge before they rushed off.

Like his mate, the old Alpha enjoyed whatever pleasure he could glean from a situation. He did not indulge as often as she, though, preferring to be simpler. Gareth didn't need much, really. A good hunt, the warmth of his mate beside him, and the loyalty of the pack. The hunt would come soon enough. His mate he had with him now -- now and forever -- and he smiled down at her in a strangely tender fashion before he cupped the back of her head to kiss her.
The pack? Well, the pack would come together soon enough. With a pair as strong as he and his mate it was only a matter of time before they were on top again.

They balanced, Alswytha and her mate, and that was one of the things that had attracted her to him as a potential partner in the first place; while they were equal — in her mind — for power and prowess, she was more subtle in her attacks than he was, and she allowed herself to enjoy the simpler pleasures in life. Gareth was more about brute force in the attack, throwing his weight around to get his way; he was very straightforward, even simple in his desires. It wasn’t as though there was anything wrong with such things, but Alswytha truly did prefer her way of handling situations. It was all about preference.
Returning his kiss, feeling her wolf shift and roll inside of her, she pressed her body to his, feeling the strength and warmth and she gave a pleased, soft moan as one of her hands found his side, her lips turning just slightly into a smile. She could be patient; the potential pack members would still be out there after she had indulged herself a little more…

It took them another few hours -- because time with his mate would never be cut short for anything -- before they were ready to 'scout' for the day. The old Alpha toweled his hair lazily as he searched for a fresh shirt in the closet, vaguely aware of Alswytha moving about the room behind him. There would be no need for extravagance, of course, not at the moment -- all-black would be a bit over-dramatic, after all.
"We can work our way up through the city," he mused aloud to his mate. "Start at one end and work our way across to the border. There is another pack that resides in Los Angeles, isn't there?"

Alswytha’s hair was already mostly dry, thanks to a towel and the appliance she kept only out of convenience. She couldn’t even remember where she had gotten the silly little thing, but she had to admit, for a human device, it was certainly useful to have lying around. Wandering around with damp hair would only irritate her. As Gareth hunted for a shirt, she was in the process of tidying away the clothes she and her mate had tossed around earlier that morning.
“There are two,” she confirmed with a smooth confidence in her voice as she worked her way past him, one of his simple, black shirts hung on her index finger, offered to him as she passed. “Stanton’s misguided group of brats and mongrels, and one led by a cocky bitch and her mushy mate.” Alswytha’s smile was cold, completely devoid of any real amusement. “So naïve, all of them.” It almost literally pained her to see such useless pups in seats of power.

"Hmm," was Gareth's blasé reply. "Sad, really. If the second pack were halfway decent, we could have offered to let them join us. But, if they're as useless as you say..."
He smiled tightly and took the offered shirt to slip it on easily. Gareth could not abide useless beings. Humans could be forgiven on occassion because they made good sport, but wolves? Wolves were born and bred to be a superior race. It was in their very blood. Any wolf who didn't use there full potential was a waste of space in the old wolf's opinion.
"Once we're through with Stanton, we might as well take them down, too."
